And just as well he didnt get dropped. His 4 goals vs GWS were one of the main reasons we got to a GF!!

My point remains... Has much more upside than Castagna.

The way you like to take statements by others and exaggerate their meaning, I bet if you were a woman, you'd believe 7 inches was really 12.

All people have commented on is that Ellis played a solid game, nothing spectacular, just a solid game of footy where he addressed concerns that have been raised about his game. If he had of got 6 disposals laid 1-2 tackles and generally ran around having no impact on the game you know you and a few others would have been among the first on here saying how he once again showed nothing.

Yesterday was a solid starting point, can he do better, of course he can. Will he do better, the majority here hope so. Right now he has done enough to ensure he should play JLT2 and continue to work from there. If I was grading the game I'd say it was a 6/10, a pass mark but more to do.

Was nice to see a couple of good strong attacks at the ball and man yesterday from Ellis. That should be his template from here on every week or he will fall right off the pace otherwise.
The bar is set so it should only make players like him better really, but does it get him into the 22? Up to him.
But it’s a positive start to what should happen at premiership clubs and that is that the players on the fringe raise their effort seeking to find a way in.

Needs to get more of the ball they say. Gets 17 disposals, but it's just a glorified practice match they say.
Needs to lay more tackles they say. Had 6 tackles(2nd most for the team) but it's just a glorified practice match they say.
Needs to win more clearances they say. Had 4 clearances(equal most for the team) but it's just a glorified practice match they say.
Criticised for a couple of turnovers they say. Had 0 clangers recorded yesterday the stats say.

17 disposals 6 tackles 4 clearances 6 inside 50s from 68% game time is a solid start to a big season for the kid. Wasn't dominant by any stretch of the imagination, but he played the role asked of him, which seemed to be the Prestia role if playing forward with rotations through the middle. Did enough to build on for JLT2 in a week and half and put himself in the frame for a round 1 spot. At this stage that is all that can be asked from the kid. Keeps putting up numbers like that as a baseline and he'll gets his chances to prove he belongs.

hmmmmmm what a joke and contradiction your post/s are.... cellis plays well and its a glorified practice match.... bolton and short also do well and for those 2 its slashing displays and certainties for round 1....bit of a hidden agenda most likely.

What contradictions. seems to me hes talking more about the roles. Bolton for a small fwd in Rioli, Short for a defender in Broad.he did say they all had good games. Me thinks people are a bit paranoid at times.

Personally i dont think you can take too much out of that game and still prefer other options to both Ellis and Short.I think Bolton is an ideal replacement for Rioli. He is the next best small fwd at the club and it is replacing like for like.In fact i think Bolton should be in the 22 in front of one of the small fwds.

I prefer Markov to Short even though that is not based on performance but id sure like to see them give him an opportunity in the preseason to show he deserves a shot at it.
Failing that id like to see Garthwaite thrown in to cover for Broad, a tall defender for a tall defender. The other option is to throw McIntosh back into Broads role and bring in a mid preferably a running mid with pace and running capacity enter menadue.
If we are looking to bring in an inside mid id be looking at others before Corey.

Mate I'll explain it to you. In football terms, which may not be your strong point, hence your haste to regurgitate the stats to promote your horse. I doubt you even watched the game.
CEllis' game was encouraging from the standpoint that for the first time in many a senior game - albeit a practice match - HE GOT INVOLVED. Kudos to the kid - he's been a bystander in most of 20-odd games at senior level. Yoiu DON'T average five handballs and five kicks a game as he in six games in 2017 by being a star or prime mover.
I marvel at the hypocrisy on here from some. If Lachie Weller, Liam Duggan, Nakia Cockatoo or kJake Lever - the four guys drafted closest to CEllis (either side) averaged five kicks a game we'd be hearing a whole lot of 'dud, delist' from posters on here, but the slightest critique of one of our own on here sends the masses into a frenzy and most spirited of defences, not to mention a Burke and Wills-length search for excuses.
It was a 6/10 game at best (credit to you on that) but to hear the lengths some go to make it look better is farcical. To borrow your phrase when alluding to A. Miles' 35 possession game v Sandringham last year, it was 35 meh possessions', which is what most of CEllis' possessions were, outside about four clever handballs. For someone who is being talked up as an elite, penetrating and accurate kick, I saw no evidence of these in his field kicking. I did from Short, who was noticeable breaking lines from defence and sending the ball long and accurately.
So congrats to Corey, he finally got involved. But I won't be changing my opinion on him on the strength of one JLT game at windy ol' Wangaratta.

Clever mate. It's glaringly obvious they are giving him every opportunity to claim a spot by playing him in the guts and other prominent roles. I suspect the fact he has produced so little as a number one pick does not sit well with the hierarchy and they will try and prove themselves right.

Short was pick 11 off the Rookie Draft, Ellis was pick 12.

Short had more impact in the 2017 season than Ellis did; Short has demonstrated that he belongs in the best 22.

Looking at Short's role yesterday, it would be consistent to say that there is a place in the best 22 because he is building on the 16 games played in 2016 as well as the 16 games played in 2017.

Short hasn't demonstrated he's top 22. He is one of probably 8 to 10 players who are on the fringe and like all the others in the same category will need to grab a spot when given a chance. The debate of CEllis v Short is just garbage as there is another 8 or more players who could bypass both of them.

Don't believe I have read anywhere anyone saying that the game was anything more than a practice match. Don't recall anyone saying he starred or was a dominant performer. Posters who have been critical of him and have asked for him to do more and yesterday he did just that. Heaven forbid anyone give the kid a little credit for taking a small step in the right direction.

Nobody is asking you to change your opinion based on a JLT game in Wang. I haven't read anyone exaggerating Ellis' game, they may have highlighted a piece of play or pointed out that he did the things that have been lacking from his game but to say they have made it out to be a breakout game is where the exaggeration lies. That and claiming that Ellis' performance should be tempered because it was a JLT game, but claiming others may have locked themselves into a R1 spot because of their performances in the game.

Mate, if the content of these threads will ever improve (which people claim they want), it will take more than just yours truly to alter their approach.
And most of it - the bullshit - starts with the usual one or two trotting out the tired 'you hate player X ... in this case Ellis .... and want him to fail.'
From there the conversation quickly heads to a battle between what is perceived as ultra-positive to the point of farcical to ultra-negative ... no middle ground.
