Makeshift Crows Reserves team devalues SANFL - how does that help us? that's another shot at us

Because it highlights that the handicap that the SANFL has put on the crows reserves (and hinders our junior development) is an own goal as it may lead to clubs like Adelaide agitating for a AFL reserve comp.

Hence it highlights that the crows reserves should be allowed to compete on a more even basis.

I know a few guys who work (voluntarily) with SANFL clubs. All of them want us out of the comp. From what they hear our club can't get into the VFL or AFL Reserves quick enough.

If we leave both (AFC and SANFL clubs) parties will be happy.

Be careful what you wish for. Take the Maggies and the Crows out and the competition becomes a little sterile.

To be honest one of his better articles,

Port reserves is not and will never be a traditional SANFL team. They gave that moniker up when they rooted their traditional supporters.

I’m at the point now that I think a mandatory national reserves comp needs to happen and with that any PAFC presence goes with it, they will always complicate things too much. Too weak and Port supporters bleat, too many advantages and it becomes in uneven playing field. Let’s not repeat history here.
I’m concerned with the future of the state leagues but if the self anointed “custodians of the game” have any brains they’ll start recommitting to and restrengthening the state leagues.

Agree The SANFL need to pull the head in and make the comp stronger. I would reduce the Gate price, make it cheaper than the Ammo's

It would be the same across all the state leagues. Which in my opinion would give the state leagues credibility again. Sure the standard might drop off a bit initially, but with the professionalism in footy continuing to increase, it will soon regain that standard. And the state leagues would no longer need to be compromised by AFL seconds teams playing in them. I've very much been in the camp of an AFL reserves comp for the last few years, and hope it happens sooner than later.

How? You've taken 500 odd players out of state league systems, players are still going to play country teams for $

I can’t see clubs like us or Port keeping on a Colquhoun or Beech if we have more lpst space. You’d want development players.

So Beech and Colquhoun still play in the SANFL.

Maybe someone like a Jonty Scharenberg gets a go who still may be good enough given an opportunity

A solid senior player not quite good enough to play AFL wouldn’t want to play reserves their whole career. Not every footy player is a loser meat head like Summerton who throws his career away to be Port Powers little bitch.
