Excuse the interruption Tigers me being a Pies supporter.
I just wanted to let you know Alex Rance shits me! I have always known he is:
1. A brilliant footballer who I love watching pay the game
2. Annoyingly handsome to the point where my wife asked in Tigers Pies game about one player on the ground
3. Loves his club and teammates
What I didn't know , and quite frankly had assumed the opposite is what an intelligent and articulate speaker he is. Last night on the couch he was incredibly impressive, actually said some things that mean something and offering opinions when most players/coaches would shy away from it.
What a gun , and what an asset for your football club.
Would look great in a Pies jumper, Alda that is never happening .
Hopefully looking forward to another game against you in late September. I know the Tigers will be there, I am hoping we are in 2018 , what Geelong was the Pies in 2018.
You gotta have dreams

Rance’s fence-sitting last night is more or less what Rance, Cotchin and Jack are going to be doing for the rest of the year, because every interview they will get asked the question.

He wasn't exactly fence sitting though. Saying things like "we don't need a big fish", "don't want to upset the apple cart" shows he has a little bit of doubt. The danger is how Lynch feels about this. Imagine if he comes to Richmond and the club doesn't go as well as expected. Imagine the pressure on Lynch as Rance's words are trotted out again by the media. Lynch might feel he could do without that thanks.

Sometimes Rance is too honest. Reckon the club recruiters would have preferred he played a totally straight bat.

Are you not aware of his track record regarding this type of stuff?
The only guy I’ve never met I would back to the hilt on these types of matters.

Love quality reporting. Head line is " Rance does not want Lynch as it will upset the apple cart"

Quotes from the article are

"He’s (Lynch) the big tuna. I’d support it because I wouldn’t have to play on him. You almost have to look at the big picture when it comes to these things; so many clubs will be after him, they’d love to have him.”

He’s a gun, and obviously you want to acquire as many guns in your artillery as possible. It’ll be an interesting situation to see what happens — lucky it’s not my call.”

And on the money issue

“Money is neither here nor there, every club has enough money these days, and we’re lucky enough that we have a good supporter base and are able to pay players what they’re worth. I don’t think it would be an issue,” he said.

“I feel like our culture could overcome any strong personality that could come in, so it wouldn’t matter if it was Tom Lynch or Jack the Ripper. Our culture would be able to deal with that personality.”

Yeah, Rance said we dont want him, :drunk::drunk::think:

You are 100% right Tiger71 but we all know that's not how the media works.

I’d rather stick with CCJ and Balta as our KPF brigade and recruit again next year. I know they take a while to develop but I really think CCJ is developing quite nicely and Balta does have something really special about him that I believe our current staff can nurture. Bringing in Lynch could really unsettle that. I’d rather be paying our current players the money they’re warranted for their efforts last season and this season.

Thats what i got out of it.Rance should have just said we'd love him at the club and be done with it.Voice his opinion inside the 4 walls but not in public. We could have dealt with it either way internally. Now if he does come to us there will be "Rift at Tigerland chorus or if he doesn't it will be the "Players wag the tail at Tigerland again chorus.

We could easily win without Lynch and back our current group in and end up with a Bontempelli down the road.

tbh I would rather take Sloane if we had to pick one.

I would rather show loyalty to the current group and its development.

Castagna and others are improving and I think its important to get behind them!!

Difficult one. My main issue is that he's being touted as 'Jack's replacement'. Lynch is exactly 4 years older than Jack. Given Jack has had an excellent run with injury and Lynch not so much, you could see Lynch retiring a year or two younger than Jack would. That means that Lynch would probably only have 2-3 seasons of playing post Jack.

Sure, we'd hopefully still be in a 'Premiership Window' then, but I'm not sure I can justify it for 1.4 mil a year. Of course that's not saying Jack and Lynch couldn't play in the same team over the next few seasons, but the structure of only one key forward is working pretty bloody well at the moment.

Media manager would've told him what to and not what to say while they were going over the questions pre show.

To me he was fence sitting. That’s how I took it, but different people read into things differently.

its decisions like this that seriously derail the momentum we have gathered in the early stages of this era. don't tell me that Rance, regarded as the greatest FB of the modern era would be happy with TL being paid 500k more than him, read the same for Jack who would proudly put his Credentials up against Lynch
we ****ed up trading out whale Roberts, Teasdale and Francis Jackson for Pitura and we ****ed up paying Maurice rioli and BT double that of cloke and raines

the rest is history

Exactly. I'd be surprised if the Tiges executive were not all over this. Basically seems to be telling Lynch as well as Richmond's footballers that we'd love to have him but not at any cost. So to get to us he'll have to accept less than he could get elsewhere because the integrity of our community football culture is not negotiable.

The reality is you could cut off Jacks legs and he wouldn’t retire. Getting Lynch would be to play alongside Jack and to help us win as many premierships as we can while Dusty et al. Is still around.

Given our trade and F/A history, if Hardwick and our recruiting team think he's the right option (which they clearly do given how heavy we're into him) then I say yes.

- Prestia, Grigg, Caddy, Nankervis, Maric, Townsend, Houli etc etc all huge ticks in recent years
- Hampson looking like the only one that went pear shaped EDIT + Yarran

If they think he'll add to the team then I'm happy to jump on board with them.

We won't mention Yarran either.

If you read this week that Hawthorn’s ahead in the race for Gold Coast star Tom Lynch, and that Alex Rance wonders if it would be a good ideato get the Suns co-captain to Richmond, you’d be thinking it’s a done deal. And it almost is.

But not to the Hawks.

Fact is, the Tigers are in the box seat at the moment and looking good to get the 25-year-old’s signature.

There’s a lot of water to go under the Punt Road bridge yet, and Suns fans – all 17 of you – shouldn’t give up hope Lynch will stay at Gold Coast, but Richmond has well and truly got one hand on the prize while the other hand is feeling around under the sofa cushions trying to find any loose change that Dusty might have dropped.

He raised some concerns about how the extra tall would affect our forward set up but then played a straight bat when Lyon questioned him on the coin Lynch would be on.
As I said just Rancey giving an honest answer to questions put to him and at the end of the day will have no bearing on Lynch’s decision

Look at the forward line we play with, week in week out. 1 tall 2 medium, 3 smalls and lots of rotations of dusty & cotch down there. And the selectors have gone for for 7 weeks of a season. Higgins over Chol or Moore. Grigg goes out, do we replace him with Soldo? No, even when the opponent is Sandilands!
Has it been working? Well we are on top of the ladder. So, Yes.
If JR was a year or 2 older I'd definitely go for Lynch. But right now, I'd be shopping around for quality mids.

Lol. I didn’t go into the link, but I like the way that was written.

If we are coming off back to back and have a contented well tuned machine group maybe we would be creating a problem selling the farm to get Lynch.

To be honest I still look at our team and scratch my head a bit that we play so well all the time. We have so many role players who are brilliant components of our machine which are likely of little interest to any other clubs.

Do we risk breaking this to add another shiny piston? It is what Richmond teams have done for 40 years and it has not always worked well.

Word is we would have to shed about 5 players to pay Lynch. The fringe players playing mostly VFL are likely to be the targets and they are our future.

If Alex Rance is apprehensive that means its a distraction to him and the team and might cost us in 2018.

Back off Richmond. See what happens at the end of the year.

I don't believe Lynch is that good and consistent that we should risk damaging a proven formula to get him.

For Alex Rance to come out and share this opinion means he and the team are taking this seriously ...

It may encourage Rance to retire earlier and I wouldn't swap Rance for 5 Lynch's
