How can a team score one goal ten behinds in three and a bit quarters?

This year is so strange, I hope we can find an antidote for it.
Kicking skills have been abysmal, haven't they? And so many low scoring games.

Then again, it makes us Saints fans feel a bit better about everything :D

You mean a team that isn't us? o_O

Who says our forward line structres and execution are crap!!!!!

Who I ask???????

Well....everyone......lol.

A few sides think it's ok....their copying us.....the ultimate form of flattery.....Dogs currently 1 goal 10 behinds.

1 goal 7 at half time....last week us and Pies only a goal at 1/2 time....tonight the Dogs.

EDIT...make that 2 goals 10 behinds.

Bulldogs finished with 2 goals 14 behinds.

I'll have to check the record books to see if that's their lowest score ever...

Had a look.

Bulldogs equal 7th lowest score in club history.
Bulldogs 12.5% goal kicking accuracy the worst in the clubs history.

What's going on with all these low scores? Are player skills simply going down hill? Has being athletic and a good runner taken precedence over being able to use the ball skillfully? Or is it because of tactics and teams are cancelling each other out? The low scoring seems an established trend.

I think I need to mention that tonight's game was in pouring rain, but it's little excuse as Adelaide kicked relatively OK.

MUFK I urge you the next time you watch a game take a look at how many players are around the football when there's a stoppage in play. Remember there's only 36 on the field at once...I saw a graphic the other week that showed a screenshot of a moment in the game where 25 players were within a 15m radius.

Reason for the scrappy games lately IMO is teams trying to put on manic pressure at every opportunity. It's so difficult to find space out there now and most kicks are generally under pressure.

I think the players need to start kicking more accurately for sure, and part of the blame is on them - but gee it's tough out there sometimes.

Cheers, mate. I saw the debate on Talking Footy just last week about the thing you mention: large numbers of players surrounding the ball. So, you think it's tactical (pressure game) more than any drop in skills? It will be interesting to see what happens going forward: whether the crowding the ball continues, or whether teams eventually try new tactics to stretch the game more.
