This much was very clear. The news had no specifics to it, just the fact that Cerra had not re-signed his contract. Its a new thing that draftees are being forced to extend in their first few months. I am surprised that more first year players, especially those that are getting games, aren't backing themselves in to the end of their 2 year contract. Cerra would almost certainly get a much bigger contract at Freo at the end of 2019 than whatever is on his managers table now.

If Cerra really was on the table, I think he is one of the best players of last few years of drafts. His game against the crows was absolutely huge. Anybody thinking that Freo are taking anything less than a top 5 pick, PLUS something extremely worthwhile is kidding themselves. I think pick 4 and St Kilda's 2019 first is probably too steep, but Freo wouldnt be giving anything more than a 2nd back.

Yep. Cerra's manager is only throwing up a smokescreen by saying he's close to a new deal. He knows full well that Cerra putting off contract talks = alarm bells and when his name gets thrown up in trade talks it adds pressure to Cerra.

His manager should have just said "hey! What about the McGovern's? They haven't signed go pester them"
