Autopsy Rnd 23 - The nightmare is over. Bring on trades & draft

Has to be a change. He's just not inspiring anybody out there.

If you watch Doc or Cripps go about it, you'd be embarrassed to not go when it's your turn. There would be zero hypocrisy in their instructions.

I'm thinking as we get better some players will return to form or develop faster. Murph might look better as an icing on the top player next year. At this stage, I'm not sure he's in my 22 though.

Agreed, he is not in my 22 either.

Reluctant as I am to be critical of a Carlton skipper, if I were in charge of list management, Murph would not be on it next year.

I'm really struggling to think of a worse Captain I've seen in my 50+ years of watching the game. Not just Carlton captain. Any Captain. His misses by hand and foot and lack of physical presence undermines the team and sets a low bar as example to the young'uns.

Sorry Murph, you are probably a very nice and diligent guy, but it's time for the next phase of your life. Nothing personal, but I think league football has passed you by.

I don't necessarily agree with that and I won't assume what he does behind the scenes because the players keep voting him back in so there must be a reason.

He has been a brilliant player in the past and I think he is suffering from constant injury and the inexperience of our side. He is every chance to regain form when the team is up and about, but he's not going to be the one to drive that improvement. Having said that, he's over 30 and the end can come quickly for some players.

That's what makes me worried. Melbourne took about 10years. If we aren't developing these kids right than we could be in for a world of pain.
From the last four drafts we have players taken at 1,3,4,6,6,10,10,12,13,15. All that matters now is development. I was never really a Roo's fan but I have completely turned around in the last few months. Being competitive is much more important than extra draft picks. Development is the key and we have not provided the right environment for that imo

We all know the failings of our club prior to this rebuild, the first time the club has embraced a rebuild. No doubt we have already made some mistakes, but none that can't be reversed quickly

I have always said that Bolton will be a phase coach. If he develops, as I believe the group will, then he remains. If next year he has a healthy list and doesn't perform, then we all know the outcome

He is not cut out to lead a side that is languishing or developing and in need of a demonstrative leader. Would slot in nicely at a Geelong where he can play a support role and be overshadowed by bigger leaders, but a side like Carlton atm, his role is pivotal and he simply can't step up to the plate

It's funny because I think next season everything will become a lot clearer but I also remember saying that at the end of last year and now have less idea about how we are traveling than I did than

Crippa is my choice but very hard to split imo Doc shows great leadership qualities aswell but in a different way than Crippa.

Doc talks for a tad too long.

He's eloquent and all but I don't find him engaging enough.

Cripps is extremely likeable, has a larrikin element in everything he says.

Doc is intelligent, Cripps is magnetic.

It is too easily being forgotten by some that Murphy won our B&F in 2017 on the back of probably his 2nd best year in his career (2011 was his best).

This year was badly affected by his foot injury & I think there is little doubt that he has been carrying the injury all the way through to the end of the season. If he can have an injury free pre-season, I'm sure he will more than justify his position in our best 22 next season, particularly if we can have most of our best 22 players available for the majority of the season therefore lightening his load.

The common thread of loving Carlton is a marvellous thing. We bring passion and different ideas on whats wrong and whats right. I have to say that the people on this Carlton Bigfooty are a fine mob. Oh I dont agree with some of you of course and from day to day that ebbs and flows on just who may get my nickers in a twist but I respect the right of everyone to an opinion and am grateful for the freedom to contest it when I feel inclined. I have looked at other teams boards and seriously theres a lot of rudeness and boorishness and bad manners and nastiness around the traps. Its a credit to us that despite the depression of being a bottom side so long with little but eternal hope for comfort that the general mood and attitudes between posters is way above what it could be. The mods do a great job. But its the people that do it mostly. Well done to all from a newcomer.

I don't disagree with you but would trade him while he still has some value.

You may have me here. I don't even recognise this player

To be honest, I don't believe he was anywhere near our best and fairest last year, but our system works that way sometimes.

His year last year is one of the most underrated years I can ever remember. You don't get in the coaches votes about 17 times without doing something right.

I like this post. It's negative towards Murphy, but it is constructive in outlining the reasons and even offers an out for Murph in a different role.

People, do this instead of '**** you Murphy!'

Think they both need big preseasons, there is a spot for both of them if they want it enough
I agree. I like Cam's mongrel. He is a scrapper.

Garlett more talented, but just seems a bit timid since the shoulder in jlt.
Hopefully he just wasn't confident with it and that will improve in the off season.

Think we only had 1 of our top 5 of the BnF of last year in the side all year.

Gibbs left
Doc does his ACL
Murphy and Kreuzer constantly dogged by injury.

It's symptomatic of our year across the list really, if we avoid having a repeat on that front next year will go a long way to improvong our plight on field.
