It has been reported that we are too far advanced in talks with McGovern to pull out now.
Suggested we will have to try to bundle our two second picks for a first round from another club.

We have to take three players in the draft don’t we? Trading out two seconds means we are left with 1st and then 4th round and beyond as we have no third round pick. This draft doesn’t bat that deep!

Both Carlton and Gold Coast will get access to at least one player each under this assistance package.

Which means one for us, and as many as Gold Coast wants.

If this is the case then the AFL are really building a competition that is increasingly taking resources away from the bottom clubs and giving resources to top clubs and they have an increasingly broken system.

The state league pick is a joke, how many decent players come out of state leagues and impact at bottom clubs since GWS and the GCS came in? I bet it's stuff all. What's a mature age fringe/role player going to do for clubs like Carlton and GCS'? Stuff all.

Enough rumours going both way, happy to wait for something official.

SoS should tell McGovern to flag immediate contract termination proceedings and nominate for the draft. The activities on the camp, misleading and deceptive behaviour in contract negotiations etc etc . Otherwise you’re not getting to Carlton unless Adelaide accepts a second rounder.

Misleading and Deceptive Conduct would not apply, because it's an ACL remedy which only applies to transactions in "Trade or Commerce." AFL player contracts are employment contracts. Employment contracts do not fall under the character of "Trade and Commerce." So misleading and deceptive conduct does not apply.

However, breaching an obligation to negotiate in good faith, assuming such an obligation formed part of their specific dealings, might be a different story altogether; its why i found Adelaide board posts, opining that MM may have been 'bullshitted' to in negotiations and that its all just part of the 'song an dance' of negotiations, interesting.

Anyway, its all just media speculation.

Fair enough but if it's true that it was announced on Ch7 News tonight that we would be denied a PP, you have to admit, that's a little bit concerning.

Repeated in jest by a few posters here, is there actually any reason we couldn't pick him even if/when he nominated for the draft?

Would he need to agree to come to us before picking him, or do we say yep, I want that one?

What are the the actual conditions imposed on us - or is the AFL just making it up as they go along?
