Gov trade is good. We got our man, you pay overs for contracted players. Mcadam is not proven. We don't need to go heavy into the draft any more. Still a lot to play out, I reckon we will trade back into the second round and/or land a couple mature mids.

Howard Kotton - "Carlton Expert".

McGovern will play mainly in defense, where Carlton already have Marchbank, Weitering, Jones, Rowe, Macreadie, Plowman.

And he's joining the Blues to show some leadership to our young forwards.

This..... one of the funniest posts ive seen in the last 2 x weeks

Perfect Trade deal, both supporter groups unhappy....... #seemsaboutright

It’s clear as day as to why both supporters are unhappy - people here were waiting to raid the Crows board and gloat that we got McGovern for 28 and a state league player. And they were waiting to raid our board to gloat we gave up our pick #1 in a deal.

That’s all there is to this.

We won’t know the answer to that for 10+ years.

And if it is, we have the number 1 pick and the selection of the best player in Australia so no need to fret.
So I’m confused,
You state we won’t know until 10 years yet then you say we have selection of best player in Australia. Maybe I don’t understand but is that contradictive ?

That's our issue, we are trade asset poor. Which means we have to go into draft pick deficit for future drafts.

From 2009-2014 our trading was that bad that the only currency we have is picks now...Curnow Mckay McLovin will deliver

We had pick 43 sitting there. So we didn't really need Adelaide's pick 40.

Would you have given up 26, 28 and 43 for 13? I wouldn't have.

Lots of work to be done to get Setterfield, and makes you wonder whether we'll actually be interested in picking up any father & sons (will we have anything to match bids if they eventuate).

With Fasolo, MM we now have some stability.

We do need to find some mature mid... either look at say trading a Kreuzer to a Geelong/Richmond whilst in a potential window and need a bit of ruck depth would see value in it. You could get a 1st rounder from them or a player like Guthrie etc.

Did you even read their post? Outside of Shiel, who is the other established 24-27 year old midfielder we are meant to trade for, or that we were supposed to be targeting? Polec? Or were we expecting Gaff to sign somehow??

Facts:
We can't target who isn't there
We can't court guys with a 2 win season

The only other option was to throw Pick 1 at Shiel. And for what? Walsh over 10 years + vs Shiel over 5-7. Which do you really, really think is better? Sustained success of short term?

You're livid with the trade? Think about what you're posting.

We traded 26 and 28 and McAdams
26 and 28. If we go to the draft, what are we getting? 18 year old prospects - not 24 - 27 year old midfielders.
Pick 13? Again, another 18-19 year old.
McAdams? State League is a lottery. And he is not an established AFL player, as you're asking for.

Think about what you're posting lol.
Success is built around being able to select players in the second and third rounds of the draft. We could have used our two state selections to target midfielders like Tim Kelly. Gone to the draft with pick 1 and 25 & 27 or trade one of them to GWS for Setterfield. Thats three midfielders we could have targeted plus Miles from Richmond to provide some solid depth. Isn't that why we have a recruiting team? We still could have gone to the Draft and gained another two midfielders inside the top 30 and not have to trade any future picks. We haven't addressed our midfield at all yet we've traded 2 picks inside 30 and two state players for MM?????

Have diligently read every post for two weeks. Took a break yesterday and thought thread would slow down . Lol looking at 113 pages in front of me.

Word of advice... #whisperssilentlyinear# “Just move forward to today, you won’t regret it”

Do you seriously think a future second (low 20's pick) will get a 20 year old former number one regardless of injuries?

Would we accept that for Samo or even Willo who has missed as much footy as Setters and was a long way back as a draft pick?

I am just saying that I'll be very surprised if we don't have to dig a lot deeper than a future second for Setterfield.

Setterfield is not a former no 1 pick.

Might need a little more than a future 2nd but only because he is contracted. Should not need much more because he hasn't played and GWS have salary cap issues.

There will still be lesser "Tim Kelly's" available in the rookie draft if we want them. If there was a Tim Kelly clone reckon he'd have been picked up last year as well. Grigg or Bolton, or both, in the rookie draft.

We'll get Setterfield, not sure why you're acting like he's one we "could have got".

Miles was locked in with GC by the time the Shiel news dropped. Off the table.

Got blind-sided by Shiel and Essendon, and if that had happened a week ago we'd probably have been able to make some plays for other mids on the market. But with it dragging out so long, it left us (and Hawthorn) in a really s**t spot.
