Wouldn't Adelaide just call our bluff and offer pick 2 and 125? Or even worse, make no offer.. It's not a secret our preference would be Walsh.

Sickwon said it's part of the payback for the overs we gave them for McGovern.

Makes sense when comparing MM's price compared to other players traded this trade period.

This comparison focuses solely on draft pick points and for 2019 picks it assumes 2018 ladder positions. It ignores all other factors like salary dumps, willingness of club to push player out, etc:
McGov pick 7-11 depending on McAdam's draft value (pick 30-60)
Setters pick 11
Hannebery pick 29
Rohan pick 61
Polec + Pittard pick 14

(Edited to include adelaide's third coming back to us on the MM trade)

Bailey Smith, from the same game

Smith reminds me a little of Fisher.
Has that busy, yet ungainly headless chook look about him, but just keeps getting the job done.

I'd gamble on RCD above Smith also.......for the CFC that is, although we now have Setterfield. Line ball.

If its between Lukosius and Smith then Lukosius by a mile. Between Lukosius and Walsh, then it comes down to needs and a flip of the coin. I dont see any argument between Walsh and Smith. Walsh is a genuine rover. Smith an old fashioned utility and we have plenty of those already.
Just my thoughts.
So Walsh is more like a Tom Mitchell or Cotchin consistent production while Smith is more your explosive mid like Judd or Dangerfield?

What a great choice to have

Utterly ridiculous. It amazes me how a business can be so big yet so small.
Anything more than a single Monday to Friday week for player movement is excessive. Clubs are now sophisticated enough that they spend much of the season analysing list weaknesses and identifying potential recruits. Any time above that is just a grab for additional ad revenue to placate the media types.

Re the Walsh v Smith discussion, i would take Walsh over Smith in a heartbeat.
If it became Walsh v Smith and another pick between 5 and 10, then i would probably swap it.
If it became Walsh v Smith and a Pick 10+, i'd stick with Walsh.

It's quite divided isn't it?

I wouldn't have liked Walsh quite as much had have I not watched him live.
Saw him through broadcast games and wondered to myself; How come this number 2 is in just about every frame and after watching him live, I worked it out.
He just doesn't stop and uses smarts to position himself exceptionally well, anywhere around the ground. Very clever player and hard working player even though he doesn't look as 'energetic; as Smith does.

Reminds me of a blue heeler chasing a thrown stick at the beach.
Tenacious yes , but not the class levels required of the calibre of pick we will likely hold.
Could find the same type later in the draft for less.

I suggest you have a good look at that MM Highlights package. There is no such thing as 'overs' for a big bodied matchwinning high flying forward.

From highlights only I have Smith ahead of Walsh for our needs. We have industrious producers, but need more flair and attack.

If the choice was Walsh at pick 1 or downgrading to pick up Smith and someone like Xavier O'Halloran in the teens, then I'd be happy.

Yeah. "Football talent" and especially "afl football talent" encompasses many many attributes.

Sam Walsh's "Afl football talent" is just so highly rated by people in the right places who should know, that it is impossible to ignore imo.

Considering projections are so speculative, this is how i see the top 4 order.

Talent: Luko, Rankine, Smith, Walsh.

Needs: Walsh, Smith, Rankine, Luko.

I have it slightly different, as I never look at the draft being needs for the next 1-3 years. IMO, you use trading for that.

Talent - This is how I rated it, back in August, which I would make some minor adjustments, but not top 4 https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/carltons-2018-draft-thread.1187246/page-269#post-57666457

Needs - Smith, Williams, B.King, Walsh/Rozee/Clark/Caldwell/Jones/McHenry/Rankine

What about Port’s 6, 10 and change/player?

Consensus here in the 400 pages leading up to trade week was that MM was worth between pick 15-19 & that Adelaide were dreaming for wanting something lower than pick 10.... which they got in the end.

My point was that there may well be something in SickWon's rumour that there is more to that trade than what's gone down so far, i.e. we get Walsh plus a second rounder.

Any predictions of a bolter? I reckon Rozee's name might be mentioned more in the media as the draft gets closer.

Had him at number 2 before the championships, then drifted, then finished strong. Rumour is that if picks stay as is, GC, would take Lukosius and Rozee.

Bolter for me will be Clark, think he will go top 10
