We aren't but it all helps in the pursuit of some "big fish" in 2019
Yeah you'd think Levi is gone... SOS on trade radio again this morning mentioning Mitch, Curnow, Harry as a good potent flexible forward line and no mentions at all of Cas (even in previous interviews other than speculation on trading Cas).
Got to feel for Cas, starts his career hand-cuffed... then almost gets delisted and then by decimation to our ruck stocks gets a game against the Bulldogs as a ruck (which we win) and gets a handful of games and proves himself worthy of a new contract... plays in seriously some of the worst Carlton sides in our history and battles hard... dealing with demons in his head over his goal kicking. Regardless of what happens to Cas we should all appreciate he tried as best he could.
Will never forget that early game he had against * where he kicked some beauties!

To be fair, he’s done pretty well to get so many games for a guy that only started playing football in his teens and can’t kick.

Would the AFL allow this? Rules are you can trade a future first or as many other future picks as you like but not both. They have been known to allow it though.
Not worried at all. Actually couldn't care less but they have definitely gone backwards

is anyone else worried that GWS have found themselves in this situation and more importantly, in that we are duplicating the plan? Let’s hope we don’t find ourselves in this mess in 3 years time.
I don't know. That sounds ever so unlikely to me.
GC would be crazy to let go the pick #2 in that situation. Why not just deal with Port or Adelaide?
Why would GC worry about player retention this year and not the next?
Given our list I’d be open to trading Cuningham to Suns along with 2019 1st to get pick 2 and a future 2nd.
I think that with pick 2, an SA club will offer us 6+10 or 8+13+16/21 to get pick 2.
That would offset the loss of Cuningham I think.

High draft picks can cost you more just for the fact they were high draft picks.
We have to get more bang for buck from lower picks and rookies.
Just picks, it’s next to impossible in the AFL system to trade players and picks on draft night, due to players having to agree to any trade. You would have to have every player manager their with an open line to all the players in the comp, otherwise draft night just took a week
I think they'd allow it.
The rule is there so teams don't trade away their future but given we have taken around 9 first rounders in the last 3 drafts I'd say they'd make an exception there.
Scully feels like Daisy, very good chance that Scully will not be what he was.

I suspect we would take a King before Luko.
You would think with any trade also resulting in a first round pick this year they would allow it as we aren’t losing a first round pick rather shifting it forward a year.
The spirit of the rule is more about preventing clubs deciding they don’t do drafting and simply trade everything off to get established players. Same as the 2 in 4 years rule

I’d rather that than get nil trade value when players leave.
SOS did really well to get value for Henderson, Bell, Menzel, Yarran, Tuohy and Gibbs. We got zilch for the 40 others.
Pick 2 for Wines straight up. Instant midfield assist for Cripps.
I don’t think Peter Bell will give up his feather that easy.

Comes back to the players having too much power in negotiations .

Dumb question, but why wouldn't GCS just deal with Adelaide/Port?
Happy to get involved if we can 'get paid' but seems unnecessarily complicated.
If I was GC and was scared on the retention of the SA boys I would trade pick 2 and 3 to Adelaide for multiple 1st round draft picks.
That along with their current early picks could have around 8 or so in the first 2 rounds. That’s quality coming in the door.
