What a midfield we've put together for the future.....

Cripper being the general is currently the ripe old age of 23yo....then we have:
Paddy Wow 19yo
Kennedy 21yo
Zac 20yo
Setters 20yo
Samo 20yo
LO'B 19yo
Walsh 18yo
Stocker 18yo

Murph to provide a bit of class in the mid over the next few years, and Ed the 'run with'....but what a young list :):):)

So instead of trading 1 for 3 & 24 this year
We kept 1 Walsh & swapped of our future #5 for adl future #8 & 19 stoker
Note: adl to miss the final eight again

Stocker + ? v ?

No doubt it will be tracked for years to come.

If Carlton finish bottom 3, and Adelaide have a good year, we could be massively kicking ourselves.
No we wont because we will have got a good player already developing for a season. Thats what matters. Forget next years draft and look at next years footy. And the year after as this group all hit 50 - 90 games. The sky is the limit.

Wasn't it just sensational tonite when the camera crossed to the Blues camp....and seeing Bolts, SOS, Juddy, Lloyd and Russell all there....we're building a dynasty both on and off the field
My oath we are it is unbelievable how far we have come in 4 years.

In 2017 we traded in future picks from Adelaide, Bulldogs and Geelong.

In 2018 those teams went from

Adelaide: 2nd > 12th
Bulldogs: 10th > 13th
Geelong: 3rd > 8th

Never fear Blues fans..... SOS is a voodoo doll expert.

Jeremias, too soon for a 2019 pick watch thread? :)

I actually love the trade.

At the end of the day too, we identified Stocker as our guy and the guy worth moving up for.

I also think it gives a huge indication that our first rounder will be traded next year, as it should for a mature ready made player.
On the contrary, SOS and co., would have done their homework. We haven't been able to attract that topline FA,
and the cupboard is virtually bare with trade bait. Reckon we have accepted we are walking to the rebuild through
the draft (McGovern and Setterfield aside) and are accumulating it ASAP.

Missed a lot of year with a broken jaw but was dominant in second part of year, is a good kick is tough as tough and went on to win Morrish Medal after missing a lot of footy, not that that means much Graham wonmorrish as well, but this is a good deal for us as far as I’m concerned I am ecstatic with it. Plus we stole him from under Richmond’s nose as they had real interest in him with there pick which was next.

The Clay Oliver-esque narrative is apt, given the Clay Oliver-esque trade to get him. Outstanding statement of intent by the club.

I actually think we dumped Boakhurst just as he was starting to play good footy, still think it was a mistake to delist him when we did. Was starting to gather some good numbers in his last year.

I agree.

Good clubs turn these players into useful contributors.

Hopefully our development pipeline is better than it was.

Interesting 1st round

Think we have done very well, along with the Crows, really rate Jones and McHenry. GWS have aslo done well.

Always perplexed with Freo's drafting, very very strange
Whilst I like the players Adelaide took I don’t necessarily like them for Adelaide. Will be interesting. Obviously I think their trade with us was a bad move by them so not overly convinced by their first round.

No idea what Freo is planning. New list boss and still the usual not obvious strategy.

If nothing else (and I'm sure I speak for the entire Afl community) I'd like to thank the recruiting team for at least making the first round interesting.
How ducking dull would tonight (and tomorrow morning) have been without the Stocker move.
Guess I'm in the minority but I liked it, largely in having time to hear from all draftees, and I enjoyed the insights - i loved our shock move but don't think I would have cared if it wasn't my team.

On pure draft value index: Pick 19 = 948 points

If we finish 18th in 2019 (3000 points) and Adelaide finish 15th (2034) or higher, they win.
If we finish 17th (2517) and Adelaide finish 10th (1469) or higher, they win.
If we finish 16th (2234) and Adelaide finish 6th (1212) or higher, they win.
If we finish 15th (2034) and Adelaide finish 3rd (1469) or higher, they win.

In those cases, 15th - 10th - 6th - 3rd is about break-even, then it gets worse for us the higher they go.

This does NOT take into account the difference in draft pool strengths between 2018 and 2019.

Hope this gives the decision a little more perspective.
