Here comes the myth that "pre-season games are not important". AFLX is irrelevant because it is a different format, but the JLT games are not. It is the first time for the season that you face up against enemy sides in months.

I believe that the JLT series has become such an important part of the season for us. We did fantastically in the preseason games in 2017, finishing 4th despite having a tough draw. We carried that confidence into the start of the real season. Then, in last year's JLT series, we dominated the competition to finish 1st overall. While that wasn't as good of a preparation for the start of the season as 2017 was given our draw was a little easier, we ended up dominating the rest of the season. They worked hard and did whatever they could to stop themselves from having a Premiership hangover and they did very well.

Our great performance in the preseason may be correlated with our performance in the real season, so I want us to keep doing what we have been doing and play a strong side. This year we have Melbourne and Hawthorn, which is a fantastic fixture to tune us up before the season begins.

Blues fans a bit upset that Cripps has to be Vice Captain under Jack because "Cripps is the better player," not sure that's how Captains are picked.
on what planet is he a better player anyway?
Jacks one of the best playsrs in the game and has been for years the ****ing muppets. Cripps would give his right knacker to have his skills, smarts and career as good as he is himself.

Cripps is good at getting contested ball and handballing off to someone, not much else. he's like Titchell but slightly better and they're both dogshit compared to jiewoldt

Wasn't it Dangerfield that kept harking on about the length of the season ?
But now he's happy to endorse an additional gimmick game.

Head of the players association. Crawls to the AFL. Sees himself as AFL chief one day.

And I’m not sure Cripps is a better player

Jack has been consistently good...a game changer for years

He isn't a better player, but even if he was Jack would still be a better captain.

Especially in this Mickey Mouse competition where 'entertainment' is the priority. It is like the legends game where comedy and skylarking will be at a premium. Jack would be captain of the all-AFLX team with that in mind (with Jack Higgins as vice).

Bloke sniffs his own farts and would do anything for money.

Jack has chosen Cripps as his Vice Captain
Danger has chosen Hodge
Fyfe has chosen The Bont
Betts has chosen Burgoyne (I think Sheds & rioli will also be on this team)

A live draft will be held in early February, where the four captains will build the rest of their side from a 100-strong pool of AFL talent, with a limit of four players eligible from each of the clubs.
Cripps will be a fat plodder in this format.

AFLX is a little tricky. I don't see me having a lot of investment in The Deadly, The Rampage, The Bolts or The Flyers (the 4 AFLX teams), but at the same time I wouldn't be that invested in an 18-team AFL competition with conferences of 6 where teams are only playing their youth either.

The only time AFLX would be interesting is if all teams buy into it and play their best players. Clubs probably won't do that because, well, why would they, so now we are left with an awkward arrangement where you have 4 teams with 8 passionate players (the captains and vice-captains who are all from different teams) and 4 teams that no AFL team's supporters have a reason to fully resonate with since there are players in each team from all over the place.

They are stuck with having quality players in teams that AFL supporters do not relate to, or teams that AFL supporters relate to without most of the top end players of the AFL participating. Looks like a lose-lose situation for the AFLX format at the moment.

AFLX should've been state of origin. Golden opportunity to bring it back and legitimise the AFLs new gimmick.

With smaller squads of 14 each state could even field their own team without having to create an "everyone else" allies/dream team.

Instead they go with this superhero bullshit purely to put more money into their new ground sponsor's pockets.

Yeah. SA, WA, NSW, VIC, QLD/NT and TAS. If Tasmania cannot field it’s own team, I’d merge it with another state.

Would have been a way to have people invested into the AFLX.

I'm personally looking forward to the AFLX game.

I have always said this is the format they should have gone with from the start.

Although I do like the SoS suggestion in the above posts as well, same concept but probably draws in a lot more people to watch.

The idea of seeing a mix of players from different teams all playing together is exciting I reckon.

The point / issue still stands about players being injured, but as we have seen in the last 2 days you are just as likley to get a serious injury water skiing or wrestling with a mate than you are at playing football.

the notion that the injury would be deemed far worse because it happened in an AFLX game is way over the top I reckon.

It would be no different to copping an injury during a training session, scratch match or JLT game.

Either way these players would have been likley playing something at that point of the pre season in preperation for the season proper.
