...as Harker points out it's really quite amazing the hoops Gibbons has had to jump through to get even a rookie position on a list and yet (although he's not played a game ) I'm confident he'll be a better contributor to the club than so many of our former draft selections.
He'll have a better AFL career than Boekhorst for one thing.

The CFC would have known Gibbons history, ability to improve his stamina....but still took Bugg ahead of him and then opted to leave one list spot vacant.
It may yet be another case of getting lucky by being unlucky but it's clear that Gibbons wasn't high on our agenda.
Maybe our outlook wasn't particularly favourable early on and that's completely changed, or maybe our options were simply limited.
As long as he plays his role then all good but maybe we're expecting just a little too much of him

Cottrell and Owies will make for an interesting watch in the VFL.
Cottrell probably on wing and Owies.....Wonder where he'll play.
Maybe we, along with most other clubs, thought there were limitations with Gibbons which he has abolished with his training efforts. Sometimes it’s just opportunity that is lacking (Lambert, Barlow, T.Kelly etc), we’ll see how he transitions into the AFL game style.
I’d say Bugg was mainly taken ahead for his AFL experience and he still had something to offer the side & ready to go. Other interests have waned his rookie aspirations.

Looking forward to where Cottrell lines up, as NB’s will have Wilson, S. Fisher, O’Rourke through there competing for minutes. Owies was targeting pressure forward role and midfield - wonder which club he’d be shuffled off to for a game if our numbers are stacked with minimal injuries + 11 (3 above + Palmer, Hill, Stavrou, Keppel, K.Collins, Blakey, Pearce & possibly Alex Johnson + younger guys that re-signed) NB regulars vying for a run.

Congratulations Michael Gibbons

Gibbons has just made my Supercoach team and will be on the bench in the 1st game, Gibbons has joined his other 2 team mates in Will Setterfield & Sam Walsh.
Hope you do me proud kid
Got nine Blues in my side, including those three, might have to revisit this.

Considering we have close to a dozen players that have had full pre-seasons and are on the verge of emerging into AFL superstars, I don't see an issue with that...
You don’t reckon nine is too few?

Was a bit worried about being light on

Put him on the ground.

Andy Collins (Williamstown coach) was on Andy Maher's program on Gues Sen this arvo.
He said he texted Bolts after Gibbo was drafted, and advised Bolts to "invest in him as a person, and he'll pay you back tenfold", spoke really highly of him.
He also said that Gibbo should have actually won three JJ Liston medals in 3 years....apparently in 2017 when he finished 2nd, Collins rested him a few games during the year because of representative duties....and he only lost by 2 votes!!!

Or Maybe Bugg was pushed because he wasnt embracing his opportunity and they did this to make way for Gibbons

so have you.......

Man, I love these two guys.
Best of luck in business world Tomas Bugg and welcome aboard you two hungry guys. I like Matt has got Ed's nose out of joint already.
Competition is great.

Really is just the good news I needed after reeling from the Docherty and Pickett double whammy a few months back.

Have not been as excited about our list for three decades,

Completely off topic but which 9?

Cripps, Walsh, Setterfield, Gibbons, Newman are some easy choices.

Fisher looks good value, Stocker is a decent choice if his job security is good, maybe SPS presents good value too?
Cripps, Williamson, Walsh, Setterfield, LOB, Fisher, SPS, Harry, Dow.

Just realised I left Gibbons out. Oh well, will need to find some room for him.

Murphy & Kennedy are also worth thinking about selecting. Polson cheap (improving?) & Goddard if he’s in favour. JSOS could prove a handy inclusion if he rolls out his training form.

Then there’s Kreuzer, Charlie & solid ol’ Simmo.

If Kim Cattrall is going to film sex and the city here at Ikon Park, can she bring Kristin Davis too ? Charlotte was always my favourite, had such a big crush on her 💖

Also best of luck to Gibbo too, if he can turn out to be our Kane Lambert, i would be well pleased.

A veritable plethora of quality options

Surely not.

For a start, we had room for Gibbons even without Bugg going, due to Docherty's injury.

And if we did that, and it came out (which it would, because Bugg would be ropeable and would tell somebody), then we'd likely face intense scrutiny from the AFL integrity unit - probably the last thing our club needs at this point in time.

More likely scenario, Bugg realised he might not have been the walk up start he thought he'd be, and didn't want to go through a season of fighting for a spot in the reigning wooden spoon 22.
