Surely you noticed how often we broke Down the very next play after we moved past Bruce/Membrey or when they split and one moved see and one got on his bike and we had no one in Between? I actually feel like it was a big contributor as to why we never pushed in when we got on top. The other reason is player stupidity aka Long giving a free away when Jack is about to make it a 19 point lead.

I also noticed more pressure. The 6 6 6 rule does no favours to talls and thus 4 medium and smalls seems a better balance to me. And as I said we took nearly double the forward marks than GC who had 3 marking players. Just out of interest who would you have not played on our forward line before the game yesterday to play Marshall?

Was thinking this at the game. Max will walk into this side.. how many vfl games do we give him? (That is excluding if paddy plays) the break down and bomb to a 3 on 3 down the line Kent long and Lonie vs GC tall backs happened way too much after one of Bruce or Membrey gave an option far up the ground. Structure wise we 100% need another tall forward

Dunstan and Joyce out for me.

Marshall and Brown in.

Marshall has a large aerobic capacity that should allow our structures to hold for longer and allow Lonie and Parker to get higher up as half forwards and turn and run back knowing the talks will halve the contest

So you want 2 forwards on the bench. And with dunstan out we would be even less limited through the bench. What about round one. I gather you wanted Marshall in then

I think we got selection very wrong in round 1. I think we have a HBF too many. I would want Acres in the side and potentially Hunter. However I don’t have anyone I would drop just yet.

Sinclair is another who didn’t impress me. That second shot on goal during the second quarter was vomit worthy. I need more from that second tier group (Dunstan Savage Sinclair Long Geary)

Do we have a match up for Brown? Given their injuries to key forwards, perhaps keeping the same defence would be better suited
I suspect you'll be on the money. Can't see how any of the defenders gets dropped so only way Brown comes in is if we move Battle forward. I doubt they'll do that either.

The problem with dropping Dunstan is he did pretty well with the contested possessions on the weekend.

I think Essendon are looking a weak inside/contested possession team at the moment and if we have someone like Steele tag Shiel (Shiel was their top contested possession player on the weekend) they don't have anyone else at the coalface to win the ball. Merrett looked a long way off for them on the weekend.

It'll be about getting at them in the midfield contest from the first bounce and ensure the doubts creep in for them. We can't let them start well this week.

Just a serious question how many posters went to the game & watched it live? Kent made numerous leads & wasn’t honered repeat efforts & posters want to drop him & Wilkie took some telling marks down back they stay in.

Both grew in confidence especially wilkie. Im sure both will be better for the run.

Mate he was strolling out of the goal square at kick ins with like 35m of space in front of him the whole game hahaha... I highly doubt the GC went into the game with a tag job on Sav.
Of course there was space when he was doing the kick outs , it's part of the new rules. It was evident he was played on tightly during general play

It says Longer 1-2 weeks - Hamstring.

Take it he is no chance? It said 1-2 weeks last week also, so if it was 1 week last week then maybe?

Is he back in full training?

We missed his big body in there yesterday. Smashed in the hit outs, from memory he usually wins his fair share.

Hahahaha if I was a betting man...which I am... I’d put good money on Sav not being tagged, considering he’s a backmen is assume he was probably trying to follow someone around?! Maybe that’s why he could’ve seemed tightly marked... haha.

Yet we won the clearances. I wouldn’t play either of longer or pierce. We need a mobile ruck. Marshall seems the modern ruckman and certainly is the one who could improve the most

If
We play the Essendon that played against GWS
Then
We win by 12 goals

They flat refused to go, so in the case where we do carry on and hold the backline or even the midfield, we absolutely pants them based on that effort because I've urinated harder shit then they dished up this round.

Unfortunately for us and all things involved, there will likely be shitting the bed, we will drop bundles, they will capitalise and shit will be harder than it has to be as we can't have nice things.

I'm also not of the sort to straight swap Brown in, don't see a match up for him, can see him being completely ineffectual in ensuring the Dons smalls don't get on top, for this reason Dmac and Geary stay in and I'm backing Joyce to back up for the run and some added cohesion. If Dunstans twigged his shoulder I'm resting him since I don't want to open that kettle of fish again where he squibs because he doesn't trust his shoulders, if he's good, I'd probably drop Newnes back, bring in Clark rotate out Sav to increase mid rotations and go in with slightly more run to make them work for it.

Then all things depending, Battle can move forward or guys like Lonie, Gresh, Billings, Steele and co can rotate front to back through the HFF as the hit up go between leaving Members & Bruce deep / chop out and you can rotate Pierce out for Marshall if you want a third tall rotating forward to keep Battle down back. Seems more solid given Hurleys really the only competent KPD on display with the Bombers in RD1, so either Members or Bruce should then be bale ot get loose and kick / set up a bag.

More thought than doors of a sliding variety, this shit is easy.

Has Marshall ever had a game for us as the no 1 Ruck (and not as a FWD/No2 ruck)?
Agree RE Longer not seeming to have much scope for improvement. Am not overly confident in our ruck stocks generally.

Makes sense RE Marshall if we are able to lose hit outs and win clearances. He is better around the ground. Be interesting to see against a better midfield if we can lose hit outs and even break even in clearances.

No I don’t believe so but before yesterday I was a virgin.

Yeah , Marshall shows more.
The Gold coast showed they where no easy beats and they showed from preseason wins against the Lions , Dogs and Sydney.
Bombers were shocking so we can expect a better showing from them this week.
Looking forward to this game , it should be a ripper.

Re Parker. Why do we need to appreciate that? You are making an assumption and telling us it is fact. Is this an educated guess because he lacks experience? That's fine if it is but don't act like the messiah and tell us it's fact.

I'm going to watch him anticipating the same desire and effort he showed yesterday.
