The interview with Liam Jones in todays presser is well worth a watch. The guy nearly bought a tear to my eye i was smiling that much. What an absolutely classy great Carlton man. He stays in the team for good, hopefully he gets some love for his performances these days as an apology for the stuff thrown at him early on in his career. I hope he's a part of our next premiership team, what a story.

It didn't help Carlton's 'cause' to have dropped one crook in Elliott only to replace him with another who was found out as being a massive price fixer and whose private life was smeared front page for months...and for the next President to be quoted as saying " we are Carlton F*** the rest"....

Collo- prices at etihad werent that bad- well ok the pies were a bit expensive- and yeah the beer was too, nah you're right

They aren't and HARKER is right - the media in general (not just sports) think their audience are all a bunch of buffoons with a 30 second attention span. But that's really not the case, and it's one of the main reasons why long-form media such as subject-specific podcasts have exploded in popularity. People don't want to be treated like the human click machines they are currently treated like, and unless the media figure this out and adapt, they'll never be as important as they were decades ago.

You can add politicians and their cynical side kicks to that list

With those legs-must be a Silvagni

Watched Heath Bucks vid on YouTube yesterday on our performance against the Swans. Whilst I agree with him that our performance wasn't good at all, I feel he is FAR too harsh on our playing list.

The same thing goes for clubs as goes for the media industry; Cornes didn't imposed himself upon it. He was given a job......so how?

How did someone (more than one) allow this individual to comment on football and pay them for the quality he fronts up with?

How did someone decide that it was Cornes' formula that was missing from their broadcasting? How? Why? Are we really that stupid and deserve this?

Cornes is a product of the times; dwindling editorial budgets, click-bait, opinion pieces vs news.

Newspapers and websites would rather publish 10 crap, controversial articles than 1 well-researched piece. No one is chasing Pulitzers these days, they are chasing twitter shares. It's the same with TV/radio commentators, they are all style over substance these days.

I agree with your point that 'these wouldn't be supplied if there was no demand'. But I kind of feel this is more supply driven; the networks and media are giving us crap. We can't take our dollars anywhere else, because it is all crap and there are no alternatives. AFL media is a very closed industry. I would argue that the drop off in TV ratings while match attendances remain strong is an indication some people are doing the only thing they can do, turning off.

Kane Cornes is not the devil. He didn't invent gutter journalism. He's just a poor exponent of the practice. IMO his failing is that he's not smart enough to add anything insightful nor is he noble enough to attempt any kind of balance or admit when he is wrong. He's just a shitslinger, pure and simple.

I dont think demand is the right word. Its thumb flicking addiction to trawling through whatever comes up on the phone screen from what I see of how people are now.

I hope most of the old school media continue to be detractors, it will just be so much sweeter, strangely enough, recently retired players such as Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Boomer etc are backing our rebuild
Dal isnt great, he's flip flopped on our rebuild 18 times since the last trade period. I think the general feel amongst current players is that carlton are a good chance of being strong. I spoke with a Swan recently who said all the players understand what's happening because Gws are fresh in their minds. So it seems oppo players are wary of carltons potential. Hope the club and list reaches it

we can seek out better long form journalism in publications like the guardian which is still free although I drop them a token amount monthly to help me sleep

I generally find that, amongst my mates and co-workers, that the general consensus is that we have a very strong list that, in short time, will be a very powerful team. Seems the only ones who can't see it are some of us blues supporters.

Not in the industry. Just a frustrated consumer.

I hate listening to BT getting the players' names wrong. I hate listening to what colour pants Luke Darcy is wearing. I hate reading articles that have no analysis or research. Or ones that are filled with stats but with no purpose.

I used to consume media like crazy (football and otherwise). My consumption has dropped right off; mostly as I don't have as much spare times as I used to (kids), but also because I've been turned off by the race to the bottom; sensationalist, biased reporting with a strong cult of personality. None of which I care for.
