Interesting points! Be good to have it in the Bolton thread

This comment caught my eye

A pass mark for the Blues in 2019 is not measured in wins and losses, but simply remaining competitive in every game and pinching a few when everything clicks.

then this
If you break down Brisbane’s 26-man squad for Round 4, they have spent an average of 6.84 years in an AFL system.
Meanwhile, Carlton’s 26-man squad for Round 4 sits at 5.76 years in the system. It’s almost exactly a full year behind the Lions.
The kicker is, of those squads, Brisbane has nine players who have had five years in an AFL system or less, whereas Carlton currently has an enormous 17.

This is why we get pushed around at the moment!

It's even a bigger margin if we take out Murphy Simpson & Thomas (who are now playing minor roles) and Hodge for Brisbane

Such a nice change of pace to read a balanced and logical opinion piece for a change. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I have to agree with Ralph, this defensive shit is 10 years old. It doesn’t work anymore. When we play fast and have a crack we kick goals and look good.

Sellers is right too.

Balance.

You can't attack non-stop for four quarters. Especially with a young side. Players tire more quickly when you're constantly trying to run and carry and play on. Then when you start to make mistakes through fatigue the opposition kill you the other way because you can't chase them.

I feel like we're improving our attacking structures and plays incrementally. I think our defensive structures and players are sound. I don't think we've quite learnt how to switch quickly from one to the other, and that indecision both costs you goals against when the opposition get a fast break, and costs you goals when you get on your own and the forwards aren't in position.

It's become a complex game. Yeah, you can try and simplify and play man-on-man, but most experienced sides are sophisticated enough to exploit that too.
