So many positives to discuss, the importance of Kruez, Samo and Cripps as well as Harry, but I thought the big surprise was Levi. I know he has his detractors, but he could have walked away with a big bag today, with a touch more luck. He contested and presented extremely well, so well done big fella.

So...

I had to work late last night, hence the lad and I could only get up for the last qtr. Twas a vey welcome surprise to wake up at 3QT and see us four goals up.

A few squeaky bum moments early on, but in the end, never in doubt.

Anyways, with about a minute to go my son did a massive shit (his first for four days) but I thought nope...we'll watch his first win together before I change him...it's one minute...what could possibly go wrong?

From him sitting upright on my knee, me bouncing him a bit and lifting his arms up to cheer on the boys, the shit ended up covering pretty much his entire back. We instigated the Poonami Protocol, of course, but when I was holding him up so that Mrs SBYM could hose the major bits off, he pissed all over me.

What this means I don't know, however, Leo and I welcomed his first Carlton win with a bang.

Essence of liniment, whiff of grippo, tang of sweat laden strapping, aura of victory, wonderful accompaniment to my cognac and cigar, yet minus the cologne stench le detractor.

The sentiment prior to the game:

• Won't win a game with Levi and Polson
• Levi can't kick, can't wait for him to be gone
• We will be 0 - 22
• Bolton can't coach, will be sacked, has not got a workable gameplan, I feel for the indoctrination of our youth

Well, just goes to show that when you are as competitive as we have been this year, when things click we can match it with any side. Yes we kicked straight and they didn't, but we have been on the other end of similar outcomes this year. We will continue to be inconsistent for the next 18 months, but the start of this year was ground zero and will will start to trend up.

Can't wait to dissect the game, players, Bolton, gameplan and tactics

Casbout and Polson are both depth players and that’s a really good thing for the side when depth players can make important contributions. Who else will make way for Charlie, Cuningham, Williamson and Stocker? It’s a good problem to have.

What a win. Much more enjoyable that the two last year.

It was good to actually win a game against a team with some genuine jets in the midfield.

McKay just so good. If only he could have finished off that massive run with a goal!

Cripps and SPS were amazing, especially in the first half where both just dominated the midfield battle. Was very pleasing to see others step up in the second half when the Dogs put in more time to them.

Loved how Fisher worked his way into the game too. So clean around the stoppages. Walsh was superb again. About time we got a genuine freak number 1!

Gibbons is a midfielder clearly! He looked so much more comfortable in there and I think some of the comments about his ability were misguided. I think the coaches might have stuffed that one up.

Backline was solid once again and good to see Marchbank finding his feet finally.

I also happened to be sitting around a lot of Carlton supporters and basically all the players who weren’t playing and some family members. Much better atmosphere than the Swans game the other week where I was surrounded by numerous muppet Swans fans who didn’t know the rules.

Fantastic result. Looking forward to when Pickett, Cunnigham and Williamson are ready to go as we desperately need more runners.

Finally the coach applies some common sense and injects Gibbons into the midfiled which was important early.

I have always felt McKay had more potential than Curnow and he looks to be moving past him rapidly, which bodes well for us.

Sign McKay up now on 6 year deal for what will end up peanuts. He is more upside than Charlie as far better hands and far better ball user.

And devised, developed, delivered a new game plan in a week

Would say there’s probably 5 that could say they just played their best game for the club today.

SPS, Fish, H, Jack & Gibbons.

All 23 or under.

Future looks very bright.

My takeaways

- We forget what a difference Kreuzer makes, midfield goes up a notch with him there
- Gibbons playing where he should - as a 7th or 8th midfielder very very solid and hits the scoreboard
- Jack will grow into a handy, versatile footballer - leave him there
- Loved Fishers slipperiness in close, it’s been missing
- SPS jet
- Walsh just a regulation 26 like it’s become expected
- Nobody really stood out in the backline today, in a good way, this tells me it was an even performance, exactly what we want!
- Harry is a freak in his own right, rare agility for a 200cm +
- Cas enjoys not having to be the no. 1 target for the first time in his career - this will have positive flow on effects to the rest of the forward line

Just thinking we still have Curnow, Cunningham, Williamson, Docherty, Setterfield, Kennedy out of that side who are consensus best 22 around here - not to mention some of the others - this is immense!

Fantastic game. Could mention so many of the players -- Harry, Samo, Cripps, Walsh, Cas (despite my doubts), Kruezer, Gibbons -- but I want to highlight the coach, Brendon Bolton. After last week's result morale could have gone anywhere, but Bolts clearly handled it exactly right to get the team up for this week. No doubt Cripps & Doc had a big hand in it too. Great leadership all round.
