The AFLs solution will be another bandaid on the sinking ship by putting a rule against kicking backwards.

It's gonna happen.
Of course it is.

And it'll have unconsidered repercussions.

Precisely.

No extra men running in off the square to clog up space.

If only we'd had someone in a position to see the impact this is having...

The other common denominator is that all three teams based their team defence off having a spare man behind the ball. A lot harder to set up that way now with 6-6-6.

We always had Daw or McMillan playing that role. Melbourne had Salem or Hibberd, Sydney Hibberd or McVeigh.

When those players get their space closed down and have to pass it off to inferior distributors of the ball the pressure heats up and turnovers happen.

For contested/non skilful sides all you have to do is press up on them when they have posession across half back and they’ll be forced to bomb it long to outnumbered forwards. Weideman/McDonald have been copping it all year, same as Brown, same as Franklin. It’s actually shit footy to watch, because it’s so predictable and un-exciting.

Precisely why playing +1 footy gets you nowhere.

The best sides do it 1v1.

It will. The band-aid rules are really making the game unwatchable. Scrap 99% of the bloody new rules and let the game flow however it pans out. Sure coaches and tacticians will work out exploits but surely a less technical game is better. We now have umpires more focused on counting how many blokes are in each zone than they are on bouncing the ball. FFS.

I wonder what were the dumb as dog shit ideas ( no offence to woof) they came up with that didn't make it?

This clown made up a rule and then goes on the public record saying that it will take some time for him and his team to work out.

I'm getting mad thinking about that. It's doing my head in.
