Look at the hit again. Slowly. It missed. Didn’t even hit the jaw. The Gold Coast player through his head back as the fist was coming then faked it like he was hit. Doesn’t even hit the throat either. Fresh air.

And this case will be dismissed on that bases.
Did Ablett throw a clenched fist at the guy’s jaw? Yep. It’s minimal impact but he did it and he is going. It’s no big deal- he can use the rest. And the team can see how they go without him. Constable perfect in for swans game.

Nup. No punch connected. Case dismissed.

Supposedly no such thing as penalties for prior escapes, each incident on it's merit, or lack of. Supposedly.
Caught in retaliation, school boy stuff. He says he's too busy focusing to care about booing or old age creeping up on him.
I think he's over eager for the team to finish on a high note, and hates losing any contest. He might lose this one.

Needed to get his body behind it and follow through.

Haha. Profusely apologising to the muppet after the game (from my lip reading skills). I wish he was miked so we could hear "No worries, I staged like an Italian soccer player."

At first I was baffled by maryjames claiming there was no connection as the main footage going around seems pretty cut-and-dried. I will say the 2nd angle does look better for Ablett and may show that it didn't connect but I fully expect him to get a week regardless and, to be honest, it wouldn't upset me if he does. Throwing a punch (even if it didn't connect) is bloody stupid after the previous let-offs and maybe a week off will calm Gaz down a bit. Don't want him becoming like Stevie J and making things like this a routine. Last thing we need is Gaz getting himself suspended in the finals for clumsily collecting someone high.

If the punch didn't connect at all and only got fresh air he has to get off.
No rule for attempted striking.
If it connected even just a tiny bit, rules say he's gotta go for it.

3rd strike for GAJ.

He got baited and fell for it.

I agree with the previous 2 weeks decisions but I see it almost impossible to call it careless rather than intentional.

The force is absolutely minimal and possible that it didnt really even connect that well - but as the gradings go and im no expert its the intentional that will get him done...... i think

GO Catters

It’s hardly a punch. It didn’t connect so no case to answer.

Ablett de facto admitted in his post-game interview on national television that there was contact, when he said he was undisciplined and gave away a free kick - what was the free kick for if there was no contact?.
He did make contact with his punch, as anybody but a biassed, delusional fool can see from watching the crystal clear vision.

No contact. Just a player acting.. it will all come out in the wash.

I feel like the claims he didn't avidly hit him are a bit silly. He clearly was trying to hit him in the arm and it slid up but he still punched a bloke in the face end result. Maybe unintentionally but he's gone regardless

Not sure whether it connected or not. The GCS player went down like a sack of spuds and deserves a medal for acting. But after all of the years that Ablett has taken the knocks, the punches to the gut and other places, the elbows and the mouth then well there is only so much that one person can tolerate.
I cannot remember any player being suspended for hitting him.

I hope he gets a week, a rest won't hurt and he can concentrate on not doing this clumsy shit.

It'll be a media circus if he gets off this time. I don't want to see him booed out of the game either..

That's the thing. The AFL whine about the look of the game, but don't do a thing to stamp out the niggly shit that leads to an action like Gary's
