Can certainly see a situation in which SOS moves on.
The biggest reason not to move would be because he feels there's more to do. But. The bulk of the list build is done. From here on out it's maintenance - contract management, player retention, trading and drafting for specific niche needs. Maybe SOS feels he's done the part he's best at (turning over and repopulating the list), and someone else would be capable of taking the reins moving forward. Particularly if that someone is Agresta who will be intimately familiar with the how's and why's of certain decisions up until now.
As far as reasons to move on. Maybe there's another club out there wanting to go down a similar path. Maybe NM or St Kilda comes knocking and says "We need someone who can be bold and decisive, and rejuvenate our list in a few short years, we think that person is you". Maybe SOS feels that the best thing for his boys is not to have their spots on the list questioned because of his role at the club. Maybe he has interests outside of list management that he wants to pursue.
Then there's the potential for the club to manage him out the door. Maybe there's someone else on the market who Liddle has an eye on, who he believes is a canny operator who could improve us moving forward. Maybe SOS's salary was commensurate with the amount of time and effort went in to our list turnover, and the club wants to scale back the spending on that role moving forward.
Don't think SOS leaving would be a massive setback. Provided whoever takes over is properly vetted to make sure they don't upset the apple cart.

The only difference obviously is the importance of certain positions (i.e Quarterback, DL, Wide Receiver vs others) but definitely a better comparison.

The idea that SOS is going is laughable. From the mouth of a director of the Club I know well "if we got rid of SOS we would be admitting we ALL ****** up. SOS' plan is the Board's plan". SOS will be going nowhere.
People are critical of the senior bodies brought in - ever thought this was done to preserve salary cap? We didn't want too many average older players on big money restricting our ability to sign stars and keep our young guns as they develop. There has been some misses - we thought we would have 2 midfield guns from other clubs by now. We also thought the younger players would have developed faster (though a lot of this is put down to the thin midfield and poor game plan).
SOS' only recognized major stuff up is the Stocker trade. But this was signed off by the Board prior to the draft (not Stoker but if a player we rate at X slips) on the basis the Club expected to be 10th to 14th this year and our pick would be traded for a mature mid. A lot of the heat for that has been pushed onto Bolton.
As for Clarkson, an approach has been made and surprisingly was not laughed at. I still doubt it happens.
Also Will Brodie will be at Carlton next year for our 2020 second and something else (Casboult talked about). Source for this one is a player agent who would know. Our first in 2020 plus this year is also on the table for Bontempeli. He hasn't said yes - but again has not slammed the door shut (same agent). We have also made a HUGE offer to Brodie Grundy - to drive up his price for the Pies in the hope it pushes out a decent mid.

Re-read my post - I said we had discussed it with MB he hasn't accepted. If he did, I assume we prioritise him over Brodie and then find something else to get Brodie over the line. Or we go to the AFL and ask for permission.
You never ignore a potential deal because it may impact on another possible deal. You get all scenarios that can go ahead (i.e. player says yes) lined up and then work out what you do.

I should add I have ZERO inside word on this but I assume we will get a priority pick this year at least equal to what the paddle pops received. I actually think we can get one before the finalists pick and would be pushing very hard.

Agresta, Brodie and their assistants make up a competent and experienced recruitment team should Silvagni want to move on in the best interest of the cubs internal synchronicity that’s fine. He has put I. Place the structures we needed most and has lead the team admirably.

I re-read your post - none of that was mentioned
Not criticising, when we get rumours like this posted the easiest way to qualify the likelihood of them being accurate is a simple fact-check of the requisite moving parts - trading a future first and second was an immediate alarm bell.
Can certainly appreciate that we'd have an in-principle agreement with someone like Brodie, and that our preferred price would be a second plus a player. Can also appreciate that Brodie might have to be disappointed if someone like Bont became available.
I do have my doubts that a trade price would have been hashed out as yet, given we're only at the mid-point of the season and neither club knows where any given picks are going to land or who else might be available. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems unlikely that a club like GC would be offering much in the way of trade assurances at this point in time, especially for a young player who only just came back into their senior side and racked up 29 touches in the middle.
So I'm going to choose to interpret this one as "Carlton have been in discussion with Will Brodie's agent, and are keen to explore a trade at the end of the year. Carlton are likely to offer up a future second and a surplus senior player - Casboult is a potential candidate given Jones will come back and Goddard is building nicely in the VFL. Carlton has also enquired as to the availability of Marcus Bontempelli, and haven't been rebuffed by his agent. Should he be open to a move to Carlton, that deal would take precedence over all others."
Again - not going as far as to disqualify the info you've shared, just trying to establish a more realistic (to my mind) scenario.
