Toast Proud of the Boys

Proud to lose you are joking. Sorry I support the club and a member to win.
To lose to them today as red hot favourites is a joke. Proud to lose what a joke

I felt great pride for our boys tonight. They could easily have rolled over as so many teams do when it's a hard slog and isn't their night. But we almost pulled off a miracle. We were literally inches away on two occasions late in the game. There is something about the black and white. They talk about the Shinboner spirit and that club has copped more hammerings in lopsided contests than I can count. It's our boys who very rarely give it up and I love them for it. I was proud of our supporters too. After all the heartache we have endured I didn't hear one negative attack on any player when the siren sounded we were shattered but more in love with this club than ever. The ovation they got when leaving the arena was what they deserved after battling through another injury plagued season and getting so close. I can't wait for 2020.

The media made us red hot favourites and as many have said all week they were creating a narrative in the hope that if we lost they could rant on about the greatest upset in history! Utter crap. All of the pie fans around me were nervous before the game. I was never confident. They are a hardened, tough, experienced team and still had quality players, particularly in defense and up forward. Watching Lyon, Brown and Roos cum in their pants talking about the magnificent upset of the century was sickening. We were missing quality too but apparently if your outs were injured months ago rather than last week they don't warrant a mention. I call a score line showing ten goals to one in the second quarter of a preliminary final against the red hot favourites far more stunning than tonight's performance by the Giants. The Giants were tough and relentless and I hope they can give the Tigers a run for their money.

By the way-has anyone commented on that truly unbelievable non decision when Grundy copped a double handed shove in the back and Finlayson snapped a goal? The media had not shut up about the touched Thomas goal but seem to have no problem with that disgraceful non-decision.

I don’t get the hate in this thread ...

... sure, you expect some players to be out ...

... but if you were told pre-season that we would lose the following players for significant parts of the season ...

Dunn (Missed entire season)
Beams (missed 15 games)
Stephenson (missed 10 games)
DeGoey (missed 7 games)
Langdon (missed 15 games)
Moore (missed 8 games)
Aish (missed 11 games)
WHE (missed 6 games)
Adams (missed 13 games)
Wells (Missed 23 games)
Howe (Missed 4 games)
Cox (Missed 10 games)

Plus Murray’s ban would be effectively upheld and see him miss the season

Plus Greenwood to do his ACL late in the season

Plus the following players would fall out of favour / form

Sier (play only 6 games)
Scharenberg (would only play 7 games after returning from knee reco)
Varcoe (play 16 games)
Goldsack (play 0 games)

Plus we would be relying on inexperienced players

IQ (play 4 games before getting injured for the season)
Wills
C.Brown
Daicos
John Noble (who?!?)
Madgen (4 games)
Appleby (1 game)

Plus emerging players missing for large parts of the season and won’t debut:

Kelly (pretty much out injured for nearly all the season)
Murphy (ditto)
T.Brown
Atu

... You’d pretty much give up on the season, let alone expect we would make it to the Prelim?

We're a BRAVE footy team, a brave club. That's our greatest strength and perhaps our most telling weakness. We keep reaching heights that our skill level doesn't really deserve.

But..it didn't...and once again...we blew it...with who giants had out...no doubt in my mind the occasion got to us AGAIN...friend of mine sent me a message saying pies should win today...I responded...Pies and should SHOULD never be in the same sentence....so much for "you get what you deserve" and their "we are one" doco....i love our players as much as anyone and wanted to win for THEM,not for me...im lucky I'm not as old as some on here that have seen so many missed opportunities....I'm not feeling pain for our players now...just for the supporters that have had to endure decades of this....and yes,I'll admit, maybe I'm not a real "supporter" if I'm posting like this....there's just so much dissapointment one can take
The Giants have enormous depth. They were missing two players who had been a part of their recent surge. They had no problem smashing sides without Ward and Colignio throughout the year. We didn't blow it. The Giants won it with good tough footy. We almost got over the line. If anything it was the Giants who choked and nearly blew what the commentators were calling a match winning lead in 17 minutes of footy in wet conditions.

They had 4 out of their best 6 players missing...with Davis injured for most of the game...they didn't choke, they ran out of puff after having to play 3 weeks straight...we started to play the last qtr the way we should have gone from the start...I was still semi content at halftime thinking even though we blew some easy chances...we would still overrun them in the 2nd half...all in all...doesn't matter...it's just my opinion...you can have yours..I'm not trying to convince anyone...just calling a spade a spade...and venting....not meaning to offend anyone

Incase your refering to my posts...please don't mistake HATE for utter dissapointment....I LOVE our club and moreso our boys....I'm more disappointed for what they cost themselves...not me....and I think your making excuses with our injuries...but that's your perogative...GREAT...now i have Bobby Brown stuck in my head

We were hammered in the third. As usual, the midfield was the problem.
Grundy has a bad habit of conceding goals from blatant pushes in his back. Especially in finals.
The few centimetres in the touched decisions told us it was not our night.
The last quarter was unbelievable - pity it didn't produce the fairytale. It so easily could have.
Next year needs some planning to deal with taggers.
Stephenson has believed his own publicity. he needs to accept that some players can run him down.
All in all this has been an excellent year for a team ravaged by injuries, but still managing to finish fourth.

I wasn't confident going in either, but for different reasons. Between Cox, Beams, Langdon, Greenwood and DeGoey we had our share of players out too and unlike the AFL giants we don't have a plethora of first round picks in reserve meaning we had to select the underdone Reid and Aish. The giants also touched us up earlier in the year by playing the hard defensive slog that we struggle to overcome. The NM game is another example of us struggling to adapt to such tactics.

Davis injured actually helped give balance to their side, most on here including myself thought they'd went in with one too many talls. Some may argue that it affected rotations, but rotating defenders isn't as critical as midfielders.

A lot of the boys put in a performance that they wouldn't be proud of.
But when those boys include Mihocek, Pendlebury, Sidebottom, what you gonna do? These players in particular have put in week after week almost never letting the team down.
It's just unfortunate that when they did have a poor game it was when it mattered most.

Stephenson has believed his own publicity. he needs to accept that some players can run him down.
Stephenson didn't have his usual burst of speed today and I wonder how much of that was due to the wet weather levelling the playing field.

I'll also add I'm the first one to get frustrated when flogs have constant digs at our club/players/staff...and first thing I wanna do is defend them....i admit I'm venting but 2nites result was unacceptable....it was ours to lose...watching everything our club releases, including that "we are one" doco...we deserved this...but we failed again..(and that's ok...I'm just saying we failed coz the moment got to us(again),not that we arnt good enough-thats the frustrating bit-coz i know we are).I just feel for our boys....this will affect them more then it will any of us....anyway...I've had my rant...no doubt will regret it 2moro...sorry if I offended anyone...but i'll leave it there...

I wasn’t specifically meaning you.

I’m also very disappointed by the loss.

But I’m very proud of what the players have achieved this season (the topic of this thread)

Both feelings can coexist.

... and I think your making excuses with our injuries...

Not making excuses.

Just pointing out that we significantly over achieved under the circumstances.

Im also proud of what they achieved with all the setbacks and after last yrs heartache....but we entered this game in way better shape then our opponents...those setbacks throughout the yr ISNT(great,I'm using capitals like jonebe🥴) what cost us 2nite....if we played half as good as what we did against geelong in week one,we would have blown them off the park....appreciate your measured responses though....on a positive....how good was MOORE😁👍

Went to the footy, got rained upon, watched an average game of footy which we just couldn't swing our way. What are you going to do? Maybe the medication has kicked in, maybe I'm numb, but I'm just not too cut up about it all and I'm in love with the club as much as I've ever been.

Toward 2020: Slightly Twitchy, but Still Black and White and Proud.

+ Mayne stood up in big moments (just as he did in last year’s GF)

A big game player

Can't argue with that...I havnt watched post siren stuff yet as had seen all I could bear...but noticed he was in tears...he bleeds black and white and gives his heart and soul every game...not bad considering he has only been here few yrs...the fact he was one of the two players to chair pendles off in his 300th speaks volumes....
