If I’m Essendon, I’m taking the best deal for Daniher this season.

-free agent next year
-11 games in 2 years
-at least some concern re: his OP
-doesn’t want to be there
-his worth dramatically drops if he misses most of this season with injury

Tough call letting go of a key forward though.
If they end up getting 2 first rounders for JD they are dead set making out like bandits

If people still have a vision of a serious player coming to us, then it can only come about via a couple of means -

1. No Papley - That would be embarrassing asking someone to nominate you and then not going ahead with the deal/
2. Players have to be involved.

You can attain a good young player via next years first alone, but you're not going to get a game changer with that sort of currency.
So if one wants to follow this 'big fish' line, one has to accept that it won't happen for relative peanuts.

Screw that, I want Nat Fyfe and Dustin Martin for a third round pick and Cam Polson, and Freo and Richmond need to pay 50% of their salaries.

I have always felt as if, someone will be traded anyway.. surely Gold Coast don't really need more picks?

Yep, I mentioned a couple of players about a 140 pages back.
Didn't go down to well with the natives.
At some time over the next few seasons, we will loose some youngsters with talent, no chance we hold onto all of them.
We need to face reality.

No one said it was a young player.

More likely a player a year or two away from free agency, where they are open to a move, their club reckons our first next year will be better than the compensation offered and as a mature player commands a salary that cleared off their books, opens a path for other players to come in.

as long as we dont loose them for nothing, and they are replaced with relative value

Sounds a whole lot like Grundy, but you'd have to assume we'd be giving up 2x first rounders, and probably a bit more.

If we wiped our draft hand, but walked away with Grundy, Martin and Betts - how would we feel folks?

Plowman, Jones, Weitering
Docherty, Marchbank, SPS
Setterfield, Curnow, Walsh
Grundy, Cripps, Murphy
Martin, Curnow, Cuningham
Betts, McKay, McGovern
I/C: Simpson, Newman, Silvagni, Fisher
EMG from: Gibbons, Dow, O'Brien, Stocker, Kennedy, Williamson
I personally cant see it being any player where we would have to give significant picks for. it will railroad commitments we have made to other players. If it is anyone it may be Gaff if he has the rumored 12 month out clause in his contract. the only spanner in the works wold be eagles pushing for him t go to cats, to help facilitate the Kelly deal.

The Cats wouldn't have the coin we have available though to convince him to head to the Cattery.

Daniher is two firsts and Patton is ????

WTF AFL teams. Asleep at the wheel.
GWS desperately need to free cap space and Patton has done how many ACLs?

The other thing to consider is while Joey D may see two 1sts go to *, those 1sts may not end up being 5 & 9 and there also may be something significant coming back to Sydney like multiple 2nds or other pick upgrades.
