Bluemour Melting Pot XXI - Like seriously, the polar ice caps have got nothing on us

Yeah we missed out on Paps and Martin but we can't change that now. It may or may not have been SOS' fault or in his control to make these deals happen but things happen for a reason.

I'm expecting a lot of our young guys to take the next step next year. Guys like David Cuningham, Fisher, Stocker, LOB etc. Think Cuners and bets will be great in the forward line and who knows players like Polson might even come good.

Gibbons will improve as will Dow and setters. I think we'll see some real growth next year.

Who knows we may even go for a Sam Grey as i believe he is uncontracted. All i know this is the first time in years I am happy with our list and missing out on Martin and Paps may set us back a little, but it's not the be all and end all.

I think many of our supporters believe we need to bring in player to improve but I believe we got the talent on our list now and improvement will come regardless.

Anyhow go the Blues.

Seriously? It's not as though Cripps has walked out on the club.
Would it have been good to secure any/all of Martin, Papley, Wines, Butler?
Yes but it wasn't to be for one reason or another, instead we'll go to the draft and add another talented youngster to the mix and maintain a reasonable hand for the next trading period where we may have a bit better luck.
To say that some of the reactions in this thread are concerning would be an understatement.

Have no doubt Cripps will be disappointed with the trade period outcome .

He went into the trade period with absolute tunnel vision and zero plan B. He failed to procure talent in the areas we are desperate to fill. That's a failure.

Would hate to be under your management as a player..

“Listen, I have a deal for you at CFC, the catch is, we need to wait until their Plan A falls over, before they sign you...”

The draft falls away after Rowell and Anderson.
We have the 3rd pick in the PSD, no guarantee we get Martin.
Don't sugarcoat this.

Take it to the bank we’ll get him, not a snow flakes chance in hell GC will redraft him and I’m very confident Melbournes shopping spree has taken a huge chunk out of their available salary cap

Serious question; how do we get Martin now? There's no PSD, so it's just the ND. We have picks 9, 43, 57, 70 and 85 (at the moment). Clearly we won't be using 9, so how do we get him at 43? Or am I missing something? Do we just offer him a year at $2,000,000 to put everyone else off and after that year redraft him on the cheap?
You had better let SOS know there is no PSD. He thinks there is.;)

Just hope we are in the ear of both Papley and Sydney right now trying to work something out for next year.

We aren't getting Martin in the PSD. GCS will set a precedent by it and send a message to the other clubs in the comp.

We are failing to land big name players and it's concerning. Only a rise up the ladder will see that change.

So we got Betts in to mentor...himself.

It was obviously made very difficult for us but that has to be considered a massive fail. No amount of optimism or ‘faith in SOS’ can hide the fact that this puts us back at least 12 months. Massively energy sapping.

More f****** rubbish!!

Get a grip

Yes we did, we got a small forward, a back up ruckman and will get a quality midfielder in the PSD.

If draft quality outside top 5 is evens, I would hope we are looking at a either Worrell for our midfield stocks or Weightman who could be our future small forward winner.

to think if we had have kept our pick 4 the bloke we need would be right there in Flanders and he’s ready to plaY from the get go

so now the SOS gamble is whether Stocker and whoever we take at 9 is > Flanders (who I think we would take if we had 4)

Have a feeling we're going to go into another phase of, "Gee, we dodged a bullet there"

Let's simply be honest and say that this trade period did not pan out the way we desired it to.
Missing on Papley will cost us and no mix of Polson, Gibbons or Deluca will make up for it. We fluffed this one.....no statues forthcoming. :)

There's a fair difference between it being disappointing, and us fluffing it.

Dodoro screwed Carlton by refusing to seriously negotiate with Sydney and helping Papley get to us.

He also screwed his club out of multiple first round/ top 10 picks.

He also publically, along with his club gave the most unbelievably antagonistic response to a player request essentially not only saying no from the start but creating a potentially toxic working enviroment for said individual for the next 12 months.

This ****ing guy, I swear....
