Bluemour Melting Pot XXI - Like seriously, the polar ice caps have got nothing on us

Absolutely abysmal.

We could have had Bonar and Butler late in the day.

We now have only an ageing Eddie to add to the list.

Relying on natural improvement when every single other team is improving their list or already better than us a road to nowhere.
Bonar and butler are the definition of list cloggers.

Wouldn't have done anything for us.

We received overs for Gibbs. Sos should have paid the king's ransom for Papley for mine. Especially in circumstances where we can draft Martin in the PSD.

And when the draft pool is reportedly shallow this year and next. SOS and crew must see a few things they like around the pick 9 range.

Nice to have all our picks in play for a potential trade during this draft or next trade period.

That's a very valid point

I look at a guy like Papley and I see a guy who, whilst playing great football, is probably about as good as he is ever going to be. That's not a knock on him, he just doesn't have a high ceiling

With Martin I still see signs he could play some great football, with the right coach and the right environment. Gold coast aren't exactly known for great development and bringing out the best in their draftees, but with the right people around him I still firmly believe Jack could be an excellent footballer. As was aforementioned, I have always envisioned him as goal kicking winger, and that wouldn't be a bad fit at Carlton

So I suppose it comes down to, does the club believe that this draft crop is talented enough to be worth keeping pick 9, or do you roll the dice, back in your coaching and support staff and try to help Martin realise his significant potential? There is no easy answer

For me, I think he's worth the risk, but that's just my opinion

I agree that Martin could be huge for us but it's a gamble on exposed form. I look at players with better form going to clubs for far less.

The Suns actually stated they have a strong draft hand via the AFL handouts so wanted something that improved their hand. They scoffed at second rounders. The AFL screwed us with that package.

this is what i want to see happen now. we dont really need to bring in a kid at 9 . stock pile the picks so we have all the ammo needed for next seasons target

I am entirely in the camp of bringing in mature talent at this point. However, I think we need to keep in mind that we also aren’t Geelong or Collingwood who are in win now mode. Our key players will absolutely still be in their prime when the 2019 draftees hit that 60-70 game mark...it’s hardly a disaster.

"We have a couple of options, whether it's in the national draft or pre-season draft," Silvagni said.

"He's told us that he wants to get to our football club.

"Time will tell."

Direct quote.

How am I wrong?

Are you joking? You had a crack at me for ‘comprehension’ when I mentioned the ND as an option.

IM really disappointed in the trade period and SOS but i don't want to dwell on it, i don't know what we offered for either Martin or Papley, i would hope that we at least offered pick 9 straight up for Paps and a future 2nd and maybe a swap of picks for Martin, but we don't know.

What i want to know is and i haven't seen it discussed. Why didn't SOS request mediation (this has been done in the past), why didn't we see Martins manager in the media pushing hard for his client. Im interested to know what constitutes a restraint of trade? If GC receive what is deemed fair value for Martin and refuse it, is that not, restraint of trade.

If i was Martins manager, i would be threatening legal action against GC and the AFL if GC threatened to pick him up again, this is different to Papley, Martin is ooc and has requested a trade two years in a row.

The PSD is now an option, but im worried the Dees will swoop, as Martin will suit them well. Hopefully Martin puts a 1 year high $$$$ price on his head and lets Melbourne know, he will request a trade at the end of next season.

Feeling pretty flat, but until the draft and the PSD are done, i will hold my judgement.

Not really condoning this but we could still ‘trade’ for Martin with GC. Trades for picks are still ok.

They want to move up the draft order. We could give them 9 and next years second for their 15 and 20. I believe our next years second will be in the 30s. They could sell it as equivalent to 22. So the ‘sell’ for them is 2347 points in, including an upgraded pick into the top ten. And for only 2024. In reality it would be more ‘equal’ on points than that. As we will finish higher on the ladder.

If that is what it takes to have them not bother playing games with Martin I’m all for it.

I’d then be happy to trade out these picks and into next year, so we have more available to trade for players next year.

So Papley wasn't available?

What the **** have our list management team been doing for the last 7 days?

Sydney later confirmed the club's hard-line stance on the contracted Papley's future, saying it opted to keep the small forward after realising it couldn't meet Essendon's valuation of Daniher.

"Tom was almost the flipside of the Joe discussion," Swans footy boss Charlie Gardiner said.

"As you know, Tom is an extremely valuable player. He was our leading goalkicker last year and, as a club, we weren't prepared to lose a player of his calibre without being able to replace him.

"Unfortunately, we weren't able to strike a deal that could see us replacing him, so we've held onto Tom and we're really excited about that and what he can do next year."

I have a feeling that it will be a long time before we deal with GC again.
