So, is there a PSD or not?

According to this article "Both Carlton and Gold Coast have an opportunity to pick up Martin in the pre-season draft, which is on November 29. The pre-season draft gives an opportunity for clubs to draft uncontracted players into the league. It occurs after the national draft and is conducted simultaneously with the rookie draft."

Let's all dance to the silver lining effect ... it's not helpful (studies show this). It was a shit trade period for us

If you were on the Carlton Board, you would not be impressed with that performance

And now we move on ... to raise our hopes once more 🌈

In fairness, a shit trade period would be the one Adelaide just had - losing a bunch of senior players and replacing them with Frampton and a bunch of picks in the 30s and 40s.

We went shopping, picked up a few bargains, and came home with our credit card intact.

St Kilda went shopping and came home with a car full of goods, as well as 3 maxed out credit cards.

Adelaide went shopping and had their car nicked from the parking lot.

I'm OK with where we sit. We didn't clean up, but we improved out list a little and didn't give up much to do so.

If Melbourne are making us nervous in the PSD, why wouldn't they be making us nervous in the ND? not to mention bringing into play the 17 other teams have a pick before our second rounder.

Lets find out after the fact if Melbourne can take him in the PSD?? Another great performance from the night it seems.
Watch Martin end up at Melbourne or the Dogs somehow and absolutely tear it up, he will no doubt.

It makes no sense for GC to delist Martin so he can sign with us as a DFA, it doesn’t deter any clubs from making supposed low offers. Sending Martin to the PSD, even though he might get to us, sends a message and a lot of clubs won’t be in our position to sort a deal.

Pretty obvious that Martin and Suns have a deep dislike for each other - enough to warrant 'The Stand' by Suns being made over a bloke they don't even play in firsts. Compared this to giving Ah Chee away for peanuts and the situation Carlton finds itself in - is messy. Clearly SOS and Co rate Martin highly enough to be prepared to go through the hassle of what may come. Compare this to St Kilda giving Stevens to Geelong or Adelaide giving their forward away to - Geelong - for peanuts or GWS giving Patton away to Hawthorn (and Scully last year) for - peanuts.

It seems that we have developed a first class ability to get involved in complicated situations with reluctant (for whatever reasons) sellers. Same deal with Papley. Essendon made it very very clear to Sydney that they wanted a player to go with a pick for Daniher - and yet we hung around waiting for Essendon or Sydney to 'blink'. Again another complicated deal - reaching for high value and trying to pay unders - giving up time and ignoring alternatives.

I can only conclude that our list management 'thinking' is in development mode - pretty rare for a CEO (like ours) to announce to the world that we are after good small forwards months ahead of trade - and then to see a less than 100% effort in achieving this publicly stated goal - Eddie (bless his socks) aside.

Cant be trusted? Ffs it looks to me and most people that sos did his utmost to get the players here given his resources. There cannot be an expectation that deals will be done at any cost, thats not how it works.
#9 was fair for papley, but the swans were flexing their muscles just like we did with gibbs. It is our right and so it was with the swans.

Martin was in a very different situation... Contracted and a club who was trying to establish a new culture by not making it easy for interstate raiders. Whether this is all undone by the psd remains to be seem, but in terms of picks offered, sos couldnt be criticised for a lack of effort
If the truth of the matter is we were - as has been suggested - stitched up, then there's nothing more we could've done and I'd be seething too if I were SOS. Especially if Suns/Swans changed the goal posts. I'm pissed at Dodoro for being a w***er - clearly not thinking of Joe (and by extension) Tom's interests.

As for the Suns, I hope we do get Jack for nothing. Bloody pains me that they chose to make a stand with us specifically and Martin. Not with Ah Chee and Brisbane (a direct SEQ rival) or Lynch/May/KK last year. Just ****ing sucks is all.

Trade Period aside, plenty to still be positive about and now we get to at least keep interested in the draft. I still think we'll rise into finals contention with Doc back, a fit squad and Eddie leading our young forward line under Teaguey.
Martin will be a Carlton player..Suns and Demons will not draft him in psd...FACT!!..
Cheers, barass. Hope you're right. Will Eddie have Harley to mentor in 2020?

I feel for Martin - seems he was played as a bit of a pawn from GCS so they could 'make a statement'. Disgusting behavior from GCS with no compassion at all for the player who has done his time at the club.

They obviously value him so highly that they dump him to the NEAFL.
If the AFLPA has any balls this is what they should be getting in front of. They really should have come out during the week & voiced concerns (if it was known/likely that the GC could/would take this approach)

Essendon stated and held to the statement that they needed players not picks, Sydney wouldn't entertain any players of value moving so Essendon said no. Its that simple for the Joe Daniher deal. I'm guessing a potential elite player (eg Blakey) or an established elite player such as Parker and a first round pick would have been more attractive to *

Of course it would have. They're worth way more than Daniher.

apart from defending the essendon players and dangerfield shamelessly self promoting what do they do publicly?

+1

couldn't understand all of a sudden GC were making a stand with us and their president was making a big song and dance with O'meara and caved in the end.

even with Ah Chee letting him go cheaply who i rate highly.
