Training 2020 Training - pics, reports etc

Such a slow day on the track today.
Maybe some match sim tomorrow then.

No more than 15 players on the track having some pot shots at goal and then a circle of trust' was formed with a lot of instruction and little else.
Betts took over at one stage and the hands were going all over the place like a traffic cop. That's it.

McKay was out there in the group, but along with others, did very little.
Cuningham looks to have a cold. How's that for a headline?

Given the limitations of a low intensity session, what sort of things was McKay up to? Running intensity? Long kicking? Agility work?

To get a rough idea whether I should probably cancel him from round 1 thoughts.

What I put forward was it.
A little kick to kick, followed up with some casual goal-kicking and then a pow-wow.
Mckay kicking on his right.

There were two ladies training and I feel they did more work than the guys today.
One of them was quite impressive actually and took some nice marks, running against the flight with arms raised over her head....not bad.

As of this weekend:-

Four players who will be training with the Blues:- Jordan Cunico (has signed with the Northern Blues), Callum Moore, Ryan Sturgess and Lukas Webb (previously announced)

“We’ve got four players who are going to be training with the group to put their best foot forward for that last list spot,” Austin said.

“They’re very different players with different skills.”

Can these 4 invitees play JLT Matches, otherwise it would be pretty bloody pointless.

When can we list the nominated. the player btw?

If I remember rightly, there was something stopping us from having Gibbons play in the JLT or practice matches? Something to do with insurance I think.

I'd assume it's the same story again, only way any of these players can play in the practice match or JLT is for us to sign them up via the SSP.

Cutoff for listing one is the 13th of March, but I'm tipping we'll make the call sooner than that unless we're genuinely undecided on which we want.

Even if they don't play in the practice match, it's still an opportunity for the coaches to see them first-hand at training, spend some time with them and see how they respond to the coaching and how they integrate with the group.

Gibbons kicked 3 goals in the opening JLT game against the bombers - but he was officially added to the list a month before that game, the announcement coming at the end of the Sunshine coast camp.

Finished my studies late last year. It's been good so far, but I have zero control over working hours as a junior so I'll likely miss some games this year. :(

Hopefully that changes in 10 years so I can structure working hours around training and match times!
Club doctor should be in your career plan!

Yeah - the club had to list him in order to be able to have him play in the JLT.
 The blues signed him (and Cottrell) on the 7th of Feb, 3 weeks before the first JLT game (the deadline was the 15th of March) because they had to in order have him play JLT.

They signed him when they did because they had made their decision.

That isn't to say you can play JLT if you are unlisted, simply that the "memory" of something stopping us from playing Gibbons in the JLT is false. We signed him well before that would have become an issue.

Macca - don't start mate.

Excerpt from a Q&A with Gibbo himself:

At what point did you get a sense that Carlton were going to sign you as a rookie or did it all come as a fairly big shock?

It all came as a massive surprise on the Friday. I had been given notice that unless they signed me I wouldn’t be able to play JLT or the other practice match against Hawthorn so I had those conversations with our football department and just took everything away from that and that the decision wouldn’t be made until the end of February. Obviously they were just playing their cards close to their chest at that point. It was more of a surprise to me.

The question asked earlier was "Can the players training with us play in the practice match or preseason games" - the answer I gave is that, based on what was circulated about Gibbons last year, that they cannot play in either format unless we first list them via the SSP.

So yes you can't play unless you are signed but no Gibbons wasn't signed so he could play JLT.

Last word on the matter - I am well aware that Gibbons was not listed for the express purpose of playing JLT.

A poster asked if the players training with us would be eligible to play preseason or practice matches. I responded that, based on the information circulated last year about Gibbons' eligibility, they would not be allowed to play unless first added to the club's list.

That's it. Nothing about the club's motivation for listing Gibbons at one time or another, or at all for that matter.

Player eligibility, was discussed last year with Gibbons, assuming the same restrictions are in place.

Nothing to see here mate, you're making an unrelated point that's not even up for debate.

My point was simply there was nothing "stopping us from having Gibbons play in the JLT or practice matches" because the decision was made well in advance of that point. Its like saying there was something stopping us from having Walsh play in the JLT.

Club doctor should be in your career plan, Mr_Plow!

I know an ex-club doctor from the Pies. Nice guy.

I assume he was always a lot busier than their club dentist...

Picking up an SSP player takes on greater importance this year given we will be picking very late in the mid-season draft ;)
And the bigger picture a late pick in the end of season draft.
