so you're all the people who want sportsman to be robots? you must all lead such enjoyable lives making sure you step on nobody's toes.......

That's ridiculous.

I, like many others, hate Hewitt. But it's because he's a twat...not because he doesn't act like a robot. I'm a huge Marat Safin fan, and he goes off the boil more than anyone.

But I like him because, not only is he so much fun to watch (there's always that level of excitment and uncertainty whenever he steps foot on the court), but he still maintains a level of respect for the linesmen, ball kids, fans, etc.

Hewitt swears and points at linesmen, calls the fans that don't like him idiots, and yes his celebrations are over the top and annoying. Tennis is an individual sport, and I decide whether I like a player based on the individual, not what country s/he is from. And as an individual, Lleyton ranks way, way down there.

If there's nothing else to choose between two players, say Alicia Molik is playing someone I don't know...I'll side with Molik because she's Australian and not a complete tool. Otherwise, I'll side with my favourite player of the two, be that their personality (like Safin, Baghdatis), or the aesthetic appeal of their style of play (Federer, Henin, Safin, Monfils etc).

I don't rate team tennis events, and as such don't care about the Davis Cup one bit. Every match Hewitt plays I hope he goes down in flames.

Wonderful post :thumbsu:

Wow did Hewitt get roflqpwned bad!

I stick to my prediction at the start of this year. He will never make another Grand Slam quarter final.

Very well said summed up the situation perfectly and I agree with what you said about Safin he is a legend
:thumbsu: Hewitt is out again good on him for getting this far with what talent he has left hahahahaha:D

Onya Fernando!

Seriously, I actually watched the first set of the match (for once, I never watch Hewitt) and I realised why I can't watch again. After every point (or even every serve) he does this annoying sequence - wipe the face with his arm band, adjust his hat at the front, side, back and adjust the shirt. He was wiping his 'sweat' off his face after the first point. I am not watching him again - it is too annoying.

pointless argument,

all you self rightous "Hewitt Haters" are a joke, who cares how he acts, whats the difference with Hewitt getting pumped than any AFL player going nuts when they kick a winning goal?

You dont see most AFL players act like tools when they kick a normal goal, like Hewitt would (well most dont). You dont see AFL players calling umpires racists, like Hewitt did. You dont see AFL players turn around and abuse an umpire after kicking a goal like Hewitt does if he wins a point after a foot fault (which is why he lost the Aus Open last year).

The guy is a tosser. Always has been, always will be. Its a single sport, not a country aligned sport. I would reluctantly support Hewitt when he is representing my country. When he is playing for himself, he isnt. Same as if SOO comes back ill support Crows players representing my state.

Considering most of the country thinks hes a twat, do you think most of the country is wrong?

Because Gonzo didn't show any emotion last night? I loved it when he watched that lob go out all the way down to the ground after that blow up in the third set. :thumbsu:

Very good post. Couldn't have said it better, although I do hold an interest in the Davis Cup.

I will support Hewitt when he is playing Davis Cup simply because he is playing for Australia. In any other tournament he is playing for himself and I hope he gets his come uppance like he did last night. Good work Fernando:thumbsu:.

You guys are WAY too hard on LLeyton.

Just consider these facts:

1. He got to the 3rd round of the Open - that means he's in the the top 64 players in the world - how many other tennis players could do that?

2. He has a wife, child and parents to support - he has to pay for their food, drinks, travel & accommodation, and they won't accept staying in a caravan like they used to when they were trailer trash - how expensive is that?

3. He had to travel all the way from Adelaide to Melbourne to play. He has to get used to strange-tasting water and trams on all the roads - it is just so difficult.

4. His coaches don't like him; actually, very few people like him even a little. How would you like to put up with that?

Let's give the man some support - every bogan needs some friends.

64 Other players.

Leave the wife and kid at home, but still cart mummy and daddy all over the globe.

Water that is drinkable and Trams that are under 100yrs old would be very difficult to deal with.

4. His coaches don't like him; actually, very few people like him even a little. How would you like to put up with that?

One Gun and two bullets, just in case he misses:D

No one would of beaten Gonzalez going by his stats in the first 2 sets. Even in the 3rd and 4th set Hewitt was giving it his all but as beaten by the better player on the day.
