Completely disagree. You can think you are working hard, think you are pushing yourself then you get taught how much further you can go.

3 years and 40+ games under the belt, has spent the whole year in the reserves, finally gets his chance, and then lays 1 tackle while playing as a pure mid? Could forgive that if he was winning the ball, but he wasn't doing that either. 12 disposals, less than half contested, and only 1 score involvement so even when he did get it it wasn't as part of a damaging chain of possession.

That's not about finding another gear Macca, he never got out of first.

Not writing him off by any stretch, got a lot of faith in the kid. But he should have been a lot better than that.

Just start Cripps at FF alla Dangerfield. Will destry Deboer if he goes to him.

Plus Sps in the guts and see how he goes. Not much to lose heaps to gain.

Cripps marking this year has been down and he doesn't have the speed to separate from tall defenders. The marks he does take in the forward line are where his tagger doesn't go with him.

You know that isn't true, why write it.

"That's not about finding another gear Macca, he never got out of first." Doesn't matter what gear he was in, it is what gear he thought he was in. It is also about where he was spending his energy, was he running to the wrong spots and burning himself out pointlessly?

Would like to see levi in defence this week. Was sensational when played there last year
Edit. Retracting this. We have gov back for the three talls that works in levis favour.

Sorry, spent the whole year after Round 1 in the reserves. Pedant. How did he go round one? 7 touches, 2 tackles, no clearances?

Dow has all the tools to make it, his body is catching up and he's physically capable of going head to head with more mature players - but he still plays like a nervous first gamer.

If he's wasting energy running to the wrong spots and then finding himself unable to compete because he's too tired, why is he playing seniors again?

Cripps hasn't shrugged off a tag all year...Matt de Boer will do what exactly what he did to Fyfe. Good luck to Cripps in winning this battle.

Maybe, just maybe, we will play Cripps forward and Levi back

Polson Levi Weits
Doc Jones Willo

Walsh Setters Murph
Pitto Dow Ed

SPS Cripps Martin
Eddie Harry Gov

Fisher, Newnes Cots Simmo

Looks more balanced, considering the opposition

Again not true. He has missed far more games than he has played.

"If he's wasting energy running to the wrong spots and then finding himself unable to compete because he's too tired, why is he playing seniors again?" Because the spots you need to run in a senior game are significantly different to a VFL game let alone a 12 V 12. He needs to play seniors to develop into a senior player.

As for playing like a nervous first gamer, is it possible that he was very nervous after being out of the side for so long? Do you think all this media talk of him not coming on and possibly being traded might impact a 20 year old? Do you think that seeing the young talent start building behind him and not nailed down a senior spot he is getting worried? Do you think after years of being the best player he knows he is having some mental issues about struggling for form?

All likely
But not the sort of things you get many chances to sort out playing seniors.

IMO stop doing the obvious with cripps. Start him forward this week. Throw sps in the middle with dow and setterfield. Have enough shots on goal thats he changes his fortunes with his kicking. The more ya do it the better ya get
I would do the complete opposite with him if it were up to me. Go back to his bread and butter, win the hard ball and dish it out. No more trying to run around the man on the mark, trying to run out of traffic etc just simplify his role and let him do what he does best. The team would benefit a lot from him just playing as the extractor.

I’d also like Pittonet and Casboult to introduce themselves to De boer really early in the game. Time to protect our best assets.

He seemed to go that way after half time against Freo. Was pretty good against the Suns.
Don't know what the **** he was doing making a lead to Martin at the end of the 3rd against the Filth though.

Bang on Sin.

You get more chances than playing a 12 V 12.

He could have a blinder in the 12 V 12 and still know it was only 12 V 12.

He could pick up just 15 touches in the AFL and start to feel things are coming together.

After this little stretch of games, absolutely agree. He did it against the Suns (and maybe Fremantle), if memory serves, and looked much better. But surely the bloke needs/deserves a rest for this game, at least? Plus, he needs the set shot practice.

Definitely agree with the talls, Cas especially, being a bit more Mummy-like. Cripps is a big boy and can often look after himself, but it would be nice to have Cas scare the living daylights out of opposition mids. Particularly when the younger, smaller players are in the middle.

knowing greene, our match committee has booked Greene to be out with a hamstring in the 1st qtr. I would assume Docherty will play on Greene.

I'd rather Doc took Greene instead of playing loose and turning it over, the way he has been going of late. Let Willo be the loose if need be, or Samo.

All of those things are possibilities, but playing seniors and playing poorly won't help him. Hence my assertion, for a long while now, that he shouldn't be playing seniors until his is both physically and mentally prepared to come in and play with conviction.

2017 draft: Rayner, Brayshaw, Dow, LDU, Cerra, Stephenson, Clark, Coffield, Naughton

Dow is the one, of that top half of the first round, who isn't playing as though he belongs at the level. He doesn't fix that by just playing games, he fixes that by playing every game like it matters.
