***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

According to the HUN, The Crows will bid on Jamarra Ugle-Hagan with pick 1.

Wonder if we can get in on this action and try get something good from the Dogs, because they will wiped out from the rest of the draft as it stands right now with their points deficit.

Maybe Lachie Hunter for a 2nd round pick ?

I like your optimism re Lachie Hunter but although he has had his issues, he is actually a gun and was WB VC before the car crash. Would be a first round pick everyday of the week and a high one.

Was hoping his drink driving incident would drop his value down :) .

Neither of them give GWS what GWS lack - which is heart & soul, grunt, and team spirit.

They would give Carlton what we lack - experience, accumulation, pace and quality disposal.
Smells like team spirit.
We're contagious
'Specially with charlie boy back. No one lifts us like Charleeee after a goal.
Oh my...just imagine us with those two additions.
And why not!
Bloody Hawks Cats and Bummers jave been adding stars for years.
Camon Blues.

Im not opposed to him, just think he needs to be lower on the priorities if indeed Williams has informally nominated us. Would rather leave dealing with Dodoro until other needs have been addressed.

Saad is out on contract, and if he nominates us then we should be able to get a deal done with Dodo.

Picked a terrible time to suggest getting Hunter for unders. BOG in the game that got them into the 8.

I wonder if Dunkley could be available instead. Seems to have been pushed back out of their midfield group, spending a lot more time on the wing and up forward this year. Presumably thanks to the introduction of Bayley Smith and the very good form of Libba.

Could be a target for a late first if we split our own.

7 for two picks between 15 and 20. The earlier pick for Dunkley, the later pick for Saad.

EDIT: The more I think about this, the more I like it. Austin connection could work in our favour, we'd be offering him a starting position on-ball and a very generous contract extension, and I can't see the Bulldigs fighting too hard for a midfielder they can't even fit in their midfield, especially given they'll need to cut their list numbers too, and will be bringing in an extremely talented and athletic tall forward.

I take your point, but those aren't the only things we neccessarily lack that are holding us back. Namely defensive style/mentality and tackling ability... Unless we expect to go kamikaze at every team, every week... I'm not convinced those two are all we need.

Just checked, Merret has one more year on his contract. Wonder if he could be shaken loose as well... a bit fanciful i think given the hardball he played with an injured Daniher last year.

If youre Dodoro, what gets that deal done? First round (top 10) and a promising youngster? Theyd be in rebuild mode surely

Would have to involve a young tall, I'd almost guarantee it.

He'd want a straight swap for one of McKay or Curnow, or TDK and a decent (ie. top 25) pick.

Carlton very confident of securing both Kelly (Trade) and Williams (FA) in offseason. Betts actively involved in the latter - Eddie has been great up north for many indigenous players in hubs, not just for the Carlton boys this season.

Has anyone run this past Gil yet? Love to be a fly on the wall of his office when he catches wind of it.....

Kelly no, but I feel like Williams is a bit of a grunt player despite his eye-catching style. Tough nut who cracks in.

Not holding my breathe on Kelly who IMO is the best midfielder at GWS. Would want two firsts.

He's not had much continuity this year but even so would be instantly our second best midfielder.

Teams with run with players then have a question tag Cripps or tag Kelly which is what we need, someone who teams need to put time into besides Cripps.

If we were trading for one or the other I'd prefer Kelly to Williams but understand that we do need that speed and as an RFA we may not need to trade picks.

To be devil's advocate for a second... to those getting amped up about getting Kelly and Williams from the Giants;

Have these blokes been able to get it done in big games in what is a better midfield than ours?
Is the rest of the Giants list better or worse than ours?
Are they better coached than us?

Not saying they aren't really good players, but they are certainly not the silver bullet that rockets us to the GF. Most of that has to come internally, from what we already have. I think our ability to do that remains to be seen. Our biggest issues moving forward are our defensive work and stopping runs against us, which go a little hand in hand. Kelly and Williams (offensive types) are certainly not aiding us in that area...

No because their list has an influx of talent hungry players and its clearly unbalanced...That balance can be easily be shifted to us where we definitely have a void that they can easily fill.

*mic drop*

If Eddie is instrumental in us getting Williams like he was with Martin last year, then you have to question why Carlton won’t just let him play until he is 40.

Never said they were the only things we lack, but they are definitely major deficiencies we need to start addressing.
