Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

If youve watched Williams play before and are worried about him getting 800k, his best footy is worth 800k a year. Stop it.
We’ve got the cap space and he’s a proven player. In his prime. Pay the money, and let his footy do the talking. We aren’t “reaching” by doing this. The club obviously have a strategy for this trade/draft period and know we can afford it. I wonder if people cried that we payed Martin a heavily front ended deal this season, so what? We secured him and he’s been fantastic with more improvement to come, is best 22 and now that number drops again.

Martin's front loaded contract gives us a lot of flexibility salary cap wise.

I hope we can stretch that space into 2 more midfielders.

This and next year's first and second rounders to trade with. Plenty of cap space and Williams already having nominated us helps with the attraction/ destination club status.

Crouch would be massive.

Viney / Wines / Kelly / etc. even better.

Just hope we steer clear of the Jack Graham / Branden Ellis types. Do not need more mid-tier players - we've got a list full if them. Don't really want Saad either.

Been waiting 10 years for a decent midfield. If our youngsters have an experienced core to play around we could have a dominant midfield.

Not to mention Murphy and Ed will be hanging up the boots soon. Frees even more money up to play with

Ill translate this for you.

GWS: Hey Zac, we love you and are desperate for you to stay at the club, what do you say?

Williams: Id love to, i love it here, im a NSW boy and we have a strong list, what are you offering?

GWS: Ummmm about that, we are already paying Greene close to $900,000 and we are paying Lachie the same, oh and Cogs, he's on a bit more, crap i forgot Kelly he's on about a Mill, then there's Jezza.

Williams: So what are you offering?

GWS: We can make you a great offer of 4 years at $500,000

North: Zac we can offer 5 years at $900,000

Carlton: Zac we can offer you 4-5 at $800,000

Im sure Williams did want to stay at the Giants and does love the club, but when your club overpays guys to stop them leaving, only to offer guys who are committed unders, then heads get turned. Ive been saying it all year, Williams will get left with the scraps.
I thought that Cogs is on around 750 from the club and about 450 from the AFL's footy ambassador fund... in other words money pull out of thin air to prop up a couple of clubs that shouldn't really exist.

My best AFL comparison for Stocker in terms of playstyle is Hodge, and he didn't really come into his own until his 4th year. I'm a youngin' so someone will need to correct me, but was his issue early on his tank too? Hence him playing on a back flank for his first few years before graduating to the middle. Very well could be misinformed but that's what I've heard.
I think that's what the clubs plans are. He's a first class player, but like Ben, was raw when he got to the club. I think that this coming year, he should be just about done filling out and can spend a ton of time in the gym with Russell. The person that I am concerned about at the club is LOB. Just turned 21, should have filled out more than he has over the last 12 months.

It could be the covid restrictions that have hindered his development. But from the look of Dow, he has definintely finished filling out and is really starting to develop an AFL ready body.

I know people like to pick on the champion data rankings, but a number of different rankings have Zac Williams rated as one of the elite players in the competition.

People like to focus on Cogs, Kelly, Whitfield, Greene, Taranto, but Williams is one of their prime movers and arguable in the same category. Elite ball user who can break lines. Will be a great compliment to our bigger body mids. A perfect fit for us.

This is a huge huge get (if it happens).

The only concern is durability.

I was very interested to listen to Jordan Lewis a few days ago talking of not paying anyone over $800,000, spoke in regards to lots of players at the Hawks playing for less than they were worth in order to get success.

Do you see that with the Giants? Cameron has been over a Mill the last 2 years, we can only speculate what Cogs, Whitfield and Kelly are on but i think its safe to say its close to a Mill.

It does and clearly has a flow on affect, i love Greene and id happily pay him $800,000 but you need to be careful.
If we are to believe the reports in the media, Cogs is on 800k/year from GWS and is getting 400k/year from the AFL Football Ambassador fund.

That works for me... after all you can never have too many players at the club who supported the club when they were kids!

We were operating at 95% of the salary cap for around 5 years (the entire SOS era). We've had the money for big name recruits, but haven't really been able to nab anyone. I think that getting Martin put us at 98% of our salary cap. When we have the space to operate at 105% capacity for the next 3 seasons.

Ability is there but Application, desire, personality, wanting it enough....big statement not coping with resort life in a hub.

Do you realize how pathetic you come across when you criticise a 20 year old for leaving the hub due to personal issues...without having the faintest clue what those personal issues are?

Give it a rest, Michael.

Why would you assume that's what has happened? He had to leave the hub for a family emergency, and from what I can tell the club let him stay in Victoria since they didn't think he could finish his quarantine and get back to match fitness before the season was over. Am I missing something?

Looks like OTC turned morris’ speculation on our offer to Williams into a chat about how we apparently have salary cap issues...
I first heard about 3pm on SEN, another journo, Sam Edmund report that Williams nominated us. Paraphrasing Edmund, he went on to say that the club told Williams that if he wanted to go to the club that offered him the best money it wasn't Carlton. Edmund said our bid was not the highest. Williams still chose us. So, I don't reckon the 850 - 900k mentioned by Morris sounds right.

Yep, I would, people make mistakes. I think that we have an improving culture so why not see if we can get a wonderfully skillful young man and help him become an even better person.

I also did silly things when I was young, give the kid a chance to redeem himself
