Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

At this point, I would probably prefer to trade for more 2nd and 3rd round picks than players.

Would like to see what type of player Austin and his team identify in the draft.

I'd prefer to get a best 22 player with our top 10 pick than go to the draft with it.

This was my concern too.
I feel Saad is exactly what we need as a point of difference in the backline. Seems like Williams will play predominantly midfield, so we need some pace in that D50. Not potting any of the guys currently there, just the mix isn’t quite right. Saad would have added both a lockdown defender on the real small forwards, and that rebound option. His kicking isn’t elite, but the run and carry is.
But the Mexican standoff with Dodoro is what was worrying me most.
Hopefully Saad is staying and hasn’t chosen another club rather than us.
The other potential is that we are being used as leverage for players to stay and get a better deal. I know that’s part of business, but we can’t afford to have another disappointing off-season.
Williams will spend time in both midfield and the defence. Saad is a good player no doubt but as you suggested the Bombers would make us overpay. I think we are well covered between Doc Willo Newman Williams even Newnes and SPS can play there.

From all reports Saad wants to stay but is using rival clubs to push up his price. It will work due to Essendon’s current state of desperation.

I don’t think this will be a disappointing offseason. Williams as a Free agent has already made it a success IMO. He’s perfect for us. We still have pick 7 which is quite valuable and I think we are looking at a few targets which have not been mentioned much in the media.

At the moment, everyone says they are staying, Daniher did last year, Wines doesn’t need to derail Port’s finals by declaring he wants out. There is still a long way to go before this offseason is done.

I've read many an Adelaide fan vent about Brad Crouch's lack of defensive effort.

It is hard to pick up off the telly, but from Adelaide supporters who presumably attend the matches, Crouch does not run defensively at all much. Maybe this is a result of his groin/op issues. I don't know.

But i am wary of committing to him for more than 2 years. And he will require more than that. I am wary of Brad Crouch. Hope we don't go there. Good player, but i really think he can't use his full arsenal because of his body.

Don't want a high priced player who won't open the throttle in favour of longevity and it's monetary rewards.

Averages about 5.5 tackles a game so it seems a bit of nonsense that he lacks defensive effort. That’s a lot of tackles to average over 95 games.

I said defensive running, not tackles.

Like getting back and helping your defenders. There is more to defense than tackling.

I am only relaying Adelaide supporters frustrations with him all year.

That is 3 years ago. Crows are last for a reason.
But they have historically been successful in Crouch’s era, including a grand final berth, until the club fell apart. Hardly his fault. Can’t very well dismiss any player based on a club going to hell in a hand basket.

We took Martin off GC hands when he looked like being an also ran, exception or rule?

Even in the highLight reel I posted earlier, at about the 1.30 mark I think, he fumbles a ball, doesn’t chase, then benefits from a subsequent turnover and handball out the back. If it happened in. 4 minute clip, it happened much more frequently in the eyes of supporters.

Anyway of pulling up gps numbers or heat maps. Can players be really good at accumulating possessions if they don’t get o the drop of the ball?

Ive heard the padding of stats for his brother, I’ve seen him a few times and I don’t have a high opinion, I always thought Brad was thought if the much better prospect, just less durable.

Umm.. Saad is a good player but why would we want a guy who would prefer to play at ESSENDON but came to us because he wanted more money?

How is that the kind of person we want at our club?

Maybe we could make him a Visy ambassador? Sometimes you have to pony up.
