I am not sure I have heard a bigger bunch of whiners in regards to the state of our great club. You reckon we had won 3 wooden spoons in a row. Seriously some of you are starting to sound like Essendon supporters. Opinions are great, challenging the club is great but the constant whinging is becoming more than tedious.

This may be interpreted as whinging about whinging: meta-whinging

IF anyone complains about your thread, it will be whinging to the power of 3

At this point, Melbourne Uni Arts' postgrads will have a thesis topic

Hugs xx

PS South of the Yarra I love your club history pieces if my memory serves on your posting

I'm usually a really optimistic supporter, but I have to concede I'm a little underwhelmed with how things are going right now.

I think Bucks said after the Port Adelaide loss that we are either really close, or really far away. Personally, I think we are further away than we think. But the gap is no insurmountable if we start getting things right.

He made that comment after some tight losses to Brisbane and Port Adelaide. They were the top 2 sides on the ladder, so close results was a pretty fair effort given we were missing Sidebottom and Howe. But the problem is how negative we played, and how unlikely we looked scoring. A 2-3 goal loss might not look like much, but reality is we never looked like scoring. Against Brisbane we actually dominated, but couldn't put it on the board. A theme of the year as a whole.

The finals showed the real deficiency in our game. The win against West Coast was brilliant, and was based on 110% effort and buy-in. The problem was that structurally we still had some gaping holes. Primarily, our midfield was smacked. Also, the win came off the back of some 'one-off' games by Cox and Mihocek. They don't put that sort of form together too often. But even playing at this remarkably high level, they only kicked 3 each. It's not like a massive bag or anything.

It's impossible to maintain that 110% intensity. The week after, when that work-rate was reduced...we were smacked. That happened two other times during the year as well. It tells me that we rely on grunt and dour defending more than we do system or structure.

The point I'm trying to make is that we need to be bolder. We are in this window of making finals and getting pretty close. But we fail to make any big calls at the trade table, and our list has been the same for 3 years now. I fear that this will just deliver more adequate results, but ultimately not enough to go all the way. Missing Cameron really hurt, because it seems we were late to the party, and didn't push hard enough. Let's see if we can be bold with someone like Hogan or Ben Brown.

We also need to really work on our midfield, find some ground level support up forward, and bring in some classy users. Perhaps Kelly and Bianco can fill the void in some regards, but I'd still like us to take some punts.

This year felt like a wasted opportunity. Yes we were unlucky, but some of the pain was self-inflicted.

Let's revisit this in a few weeks once trade week is over. I am really hopeful we'll be aggressive. If we roll out the same list next year, I am afraid I'll be pretty pessimistic about the off-season and fear we'll just be a mid-range team again.

A touch of reality for you sycophants.*

You could choose to not read the whinging comments? Instead you decided to make a new thread about said whinging comments. I wonder then, who is the bigger whinger: The folk who are bitterly disappointed about not getting a KPF and the state of our recruitment in general, or the person who made a specific thread about folk who were disappointed?

If you are so triggered by people complaining about outcomes, then just don't read the comments. This is a public forum. People can have an opinion whether it's negative or positive.

We need the yin and the yang.

Plenty of positive types out there, clap-happy feelgood f****** who clog up the train system with their mindless optimism on the way to the game, sticking it out until the final siren no matter the score, shattering their teeth in the shivering cold, shouting bland encouragements and soothing words as our loser team shuffles from the ground, then consoling each other with platitudes and confected hope during the miserable journey home about the good fortune which waits for us next week/season/decade.

I think that this board balances that out quite nicely. All about the yin and the yang.

How could you choose not to read the whinging comments if you haven’t read the comment to realise it is whinging?

I see three different posters.

Glass half full, glass half empty and those who criticise people for having a view one way or the other.

Express yourself how you want, why should I care?

Well said, that was almost poetic! I don't necessarily agree with you but I appreciate good writing!

There is a big difference between having a view and constant sooking. As you saw in my opening post I encouraged Opinions and Challenging the club but my god the whining from some posters is insane.

Don't feel bad, Rob, I hardly agree with myself either.

That's fine. Someone elses view doesn't have to impact me and it only does if I allow it. That's just how some people see the world.

Oh no what have you done? They don't take kindly to dat 'round 'ere

This is the thread where the minority like to air their opinions and sound relevant for a short time before the season starts again.

Minority sunshine?
Perhaps on these boards that may be correct as the current setup encourages your type.
Out in the outer amongst the general admission grunts?
I wouldn't bet on it.

Can’t think of one pies supporter I know that can get their head around the list management issues/tight cap and treading water in that regard

No, everything is fine, really, its fine, I mean, its just fine.

WEG posters are bloody expensive these days anyway........

I can't think of one positive post you have made about the club in any regard.

Well, we do have some fans undeterred by not upgrading the list and nobody being accountable for anything that happens. And when you think about it, that’s pretty cool.

How’s that?

You're now what you hate - one of the whingers.

A decade of mediocrity punctuated by a false dawn will do that to people.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the posts that contain personal attacks and insults.

The mod team is very appreciative of the tet-a-tets and your other efforts to keep us productive during lockdown.

Cheers, J :peace:
