As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/bluemour-file.1085141/

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

That's pretty smart not going to lie haha but no way would he accept it. We need to throw something else in. We need to put ourselves in that position. Even if he's out of contract and wants to leave, would you let your own Saad go for pick 18? Need to remember that will also be moved back closer to pick 20-25. Might need to chuck in pick 51 or a future 3rd.

Lost 2E for a pick upgrade in 2016 because we needed an extra first rounder to poach Marchbank from GWS. Sound familiar?

Nick Graham does sit within the current development structure, so how would he know

He's only been out of the Carlton system for two years and he did say 'historically'
Reckon his insight may be somewhat better than most of ours, regardless.
No one can't really argue that our development has been good though.....one can, but they'd be wrong.

So now Austin isn't sitting on his hands. Glad this deal wasn't done early as had been suggested.
I'd still take Essendons next years second, unless we have a 'must-have' quality player lined up.

Saints big losers in that trade too. They traded a best 22 player, (Blake Acres) pick 10, pick 58 and a future 2nd and 4th for Brad Hill and a 3rd round pick.

For reference, we gave up pick 3, 20 and Josh Kennedy for Judd and 46. The way the saints traded, you would've thought they were getting Nat Fyfe.

Brad Hill so far has underperformed his trade cost.

But the Saints did very well otherwise last year, getting Dougal, Jones and Butler cheaply.

Pies reportedly happy to pay part of his salary ... for one year. The most expensive years of his payments are yet to come, going to hurt whoever pays for it.

Not sure Pies will trade him if they are paying $300k every year, might as well keep him for that.
Correct, only the 1st year as his contract is back ended. If they're paying 1.5m of his wages over 5 years then may as well keep him

We have had this conversation before. Many said the same things about the younger players at the Saints, like Billings

Things change quickly when you are developing a better level of talent

* paid a future 2nd for Saad (whose output at the Suns was not too far off his * output)

* want to pay a future 2nd for Caldwell.

* can accept 18 or GAGF

Dodo doesn't need to be consulted for what the industry know Saad is worth. Dodo can demand whatever he wants, it makes little difference to the end result

He doesn't "need" to be, no. Dodo's early demands via the media are just for show and theatre.

If the 2 parties have agreed that around 15 is fair, then they would work harmoniously to achieve that. Dodo might have wanted 8 with us getting something back. Now that he realises that whatever he gets is going straight back out the door, the goal posts have shifted (fortunately in our favour).

If we get 18, he'll take that, with maybe a small later pick swap in their favour to balance it to equal 15 (assuming 15 is agreed value).

We would not just split 8 to spite him. It is not in our interests to aggravate the situation when we are the buyers.

A little off topic, but has anyone heard any news about how Charlie is progressing with his rehab?

I saw the vid of him on the website but I just wanted to know if anyone had any other info on how his knee is.
He was good to go for the last 2 games of the seasons. He is fit and ready to start pre-season

Just makes too much sense to split the pick, especially now with Dunkley nominating *.

They will have to use their top 10 picks to get Dunkley across the line with him being contracted and all. Dodo still has to take a first round pick this year so will have to just take 18 if he's to get Dunkley done. 18 is spot on for caldwell too.

Guess Nick Graham isn't a fan of our development.
Must say he has, or all being well, had a point.

Hard to gauge how we went this year though, to be fair. Luke Power has plenty on his hands.

Sherrup Puss....

:p

It’s amazing how people don’t understand this

Haha, it’s understood just fine. Whilst it might remain the 18th active pick, whoever takes it will be getting to 20th(ish) best player in the talent pool.
If there were 80 NGA players then pick 1 on draft night would be pretty useless wouldn’t it.

Aggravating the situation is trading out of the 1st round completely and only offering our 2nd rounder

We don't need Dodo's blessing to trade back, to position ourselves with a late 1st for Saad

Pick 18 is enough for an out of contract half back flanker imo
