Who’s stepping up to play in 2021?

Which of these players will play at least half the 2021 H&A season?

I'm bullish on Kelly for next year.

He will have his quiet games and stints in the 2s as required, but he is part of the solution going forward. I suspect he will be given every opportunity to cement a spot.

There's a tough decision for the club there. Kelly would be getting games over Cox (unless we go dysfunctionally tall) and I suspect Buckley will play it conservatively and favour Cox. That's Bucks pattern as a coach. That's just my read on it though.

Edit: Unless they send De Goey to midfield and play Cox/Kelly/Mihocek which I could see happening.

Jordy can play small, and could share a midfield spot with Elliot. They could rotate from stints on the ball and move forward.

Not to jinx it but we might find ourselves spoilt for attacking options.

Me. I’m gonna step up and get to more VFL games. They’ll be packed with all the new kids, and last year’s new kids, and I can’t wait.:p

Be interesting how we can go to VFL Games.

Can we just show up or will we have to buy/book a Ticket or something because of Covid?

Keane and Kelly should get opportunities this year. With Phillips and Treloar gone there are midfield minutes up for grabs. Hopefully Sier finally becomes a midfield regular, but injuries always present other opportunities... I think Macrae has the natural game to get early minutes, but may have to be managed due to that lightish frame.

If I'm going purely on what I want to see, give games to Poulter. Love him already.

Murphy - to really seize the opportunity to make either a back flank or wing position his own.
Sire - to become a regular starting mid.
Tyler Brown - next to him.
Will Kelly - cementing a spot on the forward line early in the season.
Wilson - break into side by mid season and play as a high half forward/third tall?
Keane to replace Roughy at some stage during the year.
Rantall and Bianco will play seniors at some stage also.

Round 1 will likely feature Mayne, Madgen, Thomas, WHE, Greenwood, etc.

Bucks often starts with senior players... but one or two of them to fall out of favour by mid season. Seems to be a pattern.

Of the list Kelly looks most likely to me to play 10 games simply because of his height, added bulk, flexibility to play both ends and the he’s been on the list longer than the newbies.

Would like to see Murphy start the year in Madgens spot, but doubt that happens.

Would like to see Bianco play rd 1 but doubt it at this point

McInnes seems the most likely of this years crop to debut in 2021 for mine. Height, size, hands and speed means he can probably play as a forward option to begin with

Intrigued to see how Buckley steps up next year, is he now yesterday’s man or will he adapt to the list changes and start blooding the youngsters? Can he turn the list into contenders?
player wise, I’m not really happy with going into 2021 with Cox as our main KPF, would love to see Kelly and Rusco develop as forwards. Not sold on Sier taking the next step so Reef and Tyler for me, although judging by comments reef is a way off for now.

Magden ain't getting dropped

Refer the gold coast game and his job on Sexton

Also note he played basketball for 6 years exclusive and is simply getting better and better
A natural leader with a super strong core
Can play big or small
He will release Maynard or crisp to move up field
Huge asset
Natural leader

My tip
He will be in the he leadership group by next season

Hope it’s just show up TD.

Same Here Vicky Park but IF they have to make sure that only so many allowed to be at the Game at a Time they might at least want you too Book before you go

Changes for Round 1 from Semi Final:
Out: Madgen, Stephenson, Treloar, Cameron
In: Howe, Sier, Sidebottom, Kelly

That’s at the minimum. Wouldn’t be disappointed if the following also happened:
Out: Mayne, WHE, Thomas
In: Murphy, Wilson, McCreery

He’s 28 by the start of next season and is not part of the long term. Nothing says to me that he will be a factor beyond 30... a point where slower players like him often get found out.

He has gotten better but the starting point was mediocrity, and he’s now just a sound player.

I do agree with you though that he is unlikely to be dropped for Murphy - that’s what I initially wrote.

And it wouldn’t surprise me if he is elevated to the leadership group. There are several in the leadership group, and the now youthful looking list could do with good mature leaders in the short to mid term

I don't think it's necessarily dysfunctional. Teams talk about talls giving you structure, with two talls at each end and a ruckman being the preferred structure for most teams, I personally think we should have a tall on the bench. That'd be six talls - all playing roughly 80% game time, with Cox swinging between forward and covering Grundy in the ruck and Kelly and/or Mihocek swinging between forward and covering the tall defenders. Also gives you the option to create mismatches when desirable.

I really like most of these nominations but struggle to find any enthusiasm for Tyler Brown (or Cal).

Genuine question - what exactly do you see in Tyler to make you think he can become a best 22 midfielder?

Too tall imo. I think its Cox or Kelly, and Cox has the inside run. I do think there's a tough decision there about whether to fast track Kelly's development but I reckon Bucks is too conservative for it. For WHE, I reckon Ruscoe, Henry or Reef are the options.
Does he though? Bucks was pretty forthright with his opinion that Kelly would have played as much as 11 games last year had he not been injured. I think that internally the club really rates him and unless Cox shows enough over the preseason he could easily find himself in the VFL in round 1, depending on how the club wants the forward line set up.
