Symonds was being attacked before the last world cup & responded by cementing his place, so I'm hoping the same for Watson this time around. People seem to have forgotten his form in the Champions Trophy & ignored that players returning from injury are rarely 100% from day 1. I reckon he is just as good as bat as Hayden, but gives us another bowling option.

Re: Shane Watson - Please ********** him off!

Hahahahaha - so if he is always going to get wickets, what is the problem with playing him?

Imbecile.

There is no problem with playing him if he bats up the order.

Are you saying if he takes 3 wickets but goes for 90 runs its ok?

Re: Shane Watson - Please ********** him off!

Yes, you do sound like a fool.

You claim he is targeted for the tonk, yet his e/r is 4.89.

Kinda kills the validity of your argument.

He is the more likely bowler out of the Australians that the opposition would target - Fact.

I dont give a crap about his career economy, stats are over-rated.

Re: Shane Watson - Please ********** him off!

Watson's World Cup selection has been a major talking point, with some doubting whether he has the ability to become a frontline all rounder.

Simpson, who helped lift Australia from the depths of despair in the late 1980s, also has concerns.

"While Watson is a competent, bustling cricketer, I have doubts if he has the skills or flexibility to cope with cricket at the highest level," Simpson said.

"To me, he looks like an over-coached player, lacking in natural skills and movements. Perhaps this is one reason why he has had so many injuries."

Looks like Symmo subscribes to the Robot argument as well.

You only say stats are over-rated because you argument has been walloped.

He goes for less than 5-an-over in his 50+ game career.

You have no argument.

Yes but Simpson is a grumpy fart who let grudges get in the way of his selections.

He obviously also has not bothered to be aware of Watson's career so far and his superlative performances for an all-rounder over the last year.

Simmo made some very valid and accurate points.

Many other cricket analysts have also made the observation that Robot looks like an over-coached player, lacking in natural skills and movements.

He is the Ivan Drago of cricket... manufactured by blokes in white coats :).

He obviously also has not bothered to be aware of Watson's career so far and his superlative performances for an all-rounder over the last year.

He is aware of the odd decent game but he is hardly a world class allrounder.

Lacking in natural skills?

Wow, his first-class record must just be game after game of flukes.

Imagine that. The odds must be phenomenal.

He is aware of the odd decent game but he is hardly a world class allrounder.

Well, over the last year he has been better statistically than Flintoff. What does that make Flintoff?

If you honestly think he is a better cricketer than Flintoff then I just don't know what to say. Just mind boggling...

If you honestly think he is lacking in skill and not world class then I just don't know what to say. Just mind boggling...

Not just me... plenty of cricket analysts also believe he is a manufactured cricketer lacking in natural talent and skill.

KP, Ponting, Kallis have more natural talent in their little fingers than Robot.

Examples of world class allrounders are Flintoff, Kallis, Pollock... the list goes on.

To suggest that Watson is in their class is pure folly.

Over the last year Plunkett has been better statistically than Tait.

There are many people you could use this argument for.

Shane Watson is a tool and anyone who thinks otherwise knows nothing about cricket - if he plays the cup is as good as gone. While we are on it get rid of Bracken as well!

Anyone who thinks Watson is better than Flintoff is an absolute imbecile. For starters, Freddie plays with a bit of heart. Watson nearly crys if he concedes runs or misses out on a close chance. Watson is the lovechild of Australian cricket, has been for 5 years. Sure hes done a few good things in the green and gold but so would have many others, given the chances this pretty boy has been given.

Re: Shane Watson - Please ********** him off!

At chess maybe, that would be about it!

Nah. Fred was a schoolboy chess champion.

I'm going to wait a little longer until I put the boot in on Watson. I don't think that much of his bowling but I think there's still a good chance of him coming good with the bat.

Not batting at 7, which is where he'll pad up in the WC.
