I REALLY don't want Crippa to leave, but I'm not sure that if he does choose to go, it will have the disastrous effect on culture that some seem to suggest. I recall Gary Ablett leaving the Cats at the end of 2010 and that didn't seem to hurt them too much. Similarly, when Ryan Griffen left the Dogs at the end of 2014, it seemed the club was in disarray. Two years later...

Love Crippa and he loves Carlton. If he leaves it will be for personal reasons and family. But no one is bigger than the club.

Agreed. A "cultural" change for this group may be a blessing.

Agree.

Add Franklin and Danger as well.Generally the player that leaves the club gets very well compensated.

If Cripps wants to leave and go back home for personal reasons, you respect the decision and manufacture a trade that suits both parties.

As side note, if Cripps leaves it will be for WC not the Dockers, but WC have promised the playing group, after the players took a hair cut during covid, that the club will not target a top end player

Make of that what you will

Cripps is a gun. We can't afford to lose him. Exactly the player you know will lift the team in a big final. A player that has already shown his best to be top 5 in competition.

Can't see Cripps going anywhere. Also hard to believe he would've mentioned to anyone that he would wait to see how the team is going to make a decision. I'm sure as a leader he would've got in the ear of Martin, Williams & Saad. He won't walk out on them.

Gaff, Nat, Shuey, Kennedy, McGovern, Hurn, Darling still provide great output but all will be 30 to 35 next year. WC's window is fast closing. Freo has a lot of young even talent but Fyfe & Walters will be 31 next year, Mundy 37

In Yesterday's game Cripps would have noted the absence of Martin, Williams, De Koning, Curnow, Silvagni, his little mate Fisher, Marchbank, and potential youngsters Kemp & Carroll (mids) and said to himself I'm excited.

If he does decide to return to WA, West Coast will backtrack on that very quickly.

Easy to do too - there is a difference between targeting a player, and accommodating one who wants to join.

Yep we have to get away from the Cripps type, you know the do anything for the team, drag players along with you type, have all within the team (and afl) look up to you type.

I don't agree he's that type of player. Listen to him speak and it's often "I" statements rather than "We". He's nowhere near as selfless as what you are describing. His limitations as a player have been exposed over the last year as has his skills and decision making. Cripps is a very good player on his best day but not irreplaceable.

this cripps leaving rumoring seems to be gaining momentum.

im hoping it is just speculation and not because its true and someone in the know is flaming the fire indirectly. he would be an enormous loss even though he is down on form atm. one of the issues I think that is contributing to cripps lack of output is due us lacking a decent ruckman. think it will change once TDK comes in.

Yep I remember when Cripps first cemented himself as an AFL wide elite, 50% of his highlight reel featured Kruz

How many 1st round picks have they used lately? I don't think they've used one since Brander in 2017 so will need to use at least one this year.

If Cripps goes it won't be as a free agent, it'll be a matched offer to force a trade. Eagles would have to offload players to get 1st round picks to use in the draft and use in the trade. That's gotta be hard to accomplish.

Come off it mate. Journalist asks question about cripps and he answers as "i" and you are saying that makes him selfish.
Nobody is saying that he is irreplaceable, rather that it would tear at the fabric of this team if like you the club thought that he was dispensable . This collection of players has some real capacity that will show itself as the season progresses.
Losing cripps because we thought that cerra and a draft pick might be good compensation is plain ridiculous.
If he decided that he had to leave due to his partners issues then so be it, you would have to make the best of a bad situation. To anyway encourage this would be disgraceful.
Once again though I don't think that it will matter. I can't see him leaving.

Once again a couple of people having a guess on a fan site doesn't mean "gaining momentum".

I remember Gibbs coming out saying he wasn’t going anywhere, then a few weeks later was out the door to Adelaide.

I don’t believe Cripps is staying until he does.
And we held Gibbs until the next year when Adelaide ponied up and paid the price we wanted, could we see it happen again? possibly.
