He’s averaging slightly more possessions this year, just under 19.
At 22 years of age, he looks primed to continue his improvement.
Yes but there was significantly less game time last year too. He hasn’t taken that next step really, but on the other hand saying he’s become meh is underselling him too.

He had a really good block of games where he was getting high 20s.
He might be carrying something or just out of form.

I’ll happily call bullshit on that report. Reports at the time of him signing had his salary at around $900k with some reports saying “up to $1m” which is a clever industry trick often used to sensationalise a players salary and suck in chumps who take those reports at face value.
And those are pre-covid numbers too. Players league wide have had to take pay cuts to adjust to the new salary cap, Grundy and Collingwood players are no exception.

This is an interesting conversation, in that there's speculation about how much Grundy is being paid exactly. The debate should be about is he earning his coin, a player on around $900k or more or a little less whatever.

Grundy. Is. Not. Earning. Anywhere. Near. That.

Nic Nat and Gawn are having more impact, I would argue that guys like Lycett, Hickey, Ryder and Marshall are having as much influence as Brody if not more but are likely not getting the same coin.

That sort of money is a regular match winner like Dusty, we ain't getting it from Brody, he's not impacting games like he should for the money he's getting, the speculation on exactly how much is not relevant.

I think those fluctuations are more about the midfield rotations he's getting. Seems to be getting 75-85%ToG and he's certainly not starting centre square for all of that time. Assume he's still getting a bit of HFF but hard to know without being there live. I guess that while he needs time in there, same can be said for Bianco and others.

Max Gawn: 18.64 disposals, 5.71 marks, 8 goals, 41 hit outs, 2.57 tackles, 10.78 contested poss,
Brodie Grundy: 19.27 disposals, 3.18 marks, 7 goals, 35.36 hit outs, 4.63 tackles, 12.45 contested poss

Similar stats this year. Gawn ahead on hit outs and marks,
Grundy ahead on possessions and tackles.

Interested to understand how you view Gawn as being more impactful?

I for one, would like to see Grundy shot out of a canon into the sun, do I have any other takers?

When he gets back, he can be placed on a contract befitting of his skill set and will be welcomed with warm open arms.

He’s a legend and I love him but f*ck me we erred with that contract…

A canon? well I would prefer a nikon, just because i have one and I'd like to see that menu option demonstrated to its fullest....

I'd like him back on the wing. Needs uncontested possessions and he's not a good tackler.

just for interest, i looked at the supercoach thingy... not that i know anything about it but I believe that it is built on stats.....

It's interesting to see how high grundy is on the ranking, although I think we all concede that he is massively overpaid and should be on about $100 a week plus expenses...

I wouldn’t put much stock into that resource. There are some very average players on that list…

Don’t confuse people with facts Jmac. You know how they don’t like them.

Marks and hit outs are the traditional benchmarks for rucks so I imagine he thinks those stats of Gawns are more impactful than Grundy's.

Lets face it jmac Grundy is not your traditional ruckman.

I'm coming around to the position of some others and would like to see him trialed as a ruck rover.

Pfft, he should be playing for free clearly if you ask some.

This game was lost at the selection table
Cox and Madgen instead of Kelly(Sier) and Keane doomed us
Development from here on is priority #1

Harvey should be told now he hasn't got the job so he doesn't coach to win the job
and he coaches for development of the list

well a lot of average players get a lot of stats.....which doesn't do much to support your argument either.

but regarding stats, i notice that we play a lot better when callum brown and JT are touching the ball a few times during the game.

I know this is old school, but in the old days, when you run out of the players (used the two reserves) you had to play with 17 men. Most teams in those situations lost in the old days.

I know this might surprise modern people but 17 men find it hard to beat 18 men, and when JT and callum are playing their usual game, they are virtually non-existent.

I noticed when we were doing well against freo that I saw JT and/or callum in the TV frame a few times. We all remember the incredible moment when they kicked consecutive goals. I would be working this area rather than trying to get more out of grundy.

So you'd be happy for Maynard to give away a crucial 50metre penalty in a grand final if a bad call goes against him...?

one did and he didn't

The best development for the list is a strong framework of experience for youngsters to learn from.

Ask Melbourne supporters how much they loved having an almost secondary school age team.

The free kick against maynard was an error. We all know this. Umpires give automatic freekicks in certain situations - front on contact even when the player taking the mark initiates the contact..... another one is head-high contact, even when the player chooses to duck his head into contact....

The umpires just see the contact and give a free kick.... no questions asked.

it's all best forgotten about....talking about it is as useful as discussing wayne harmes

Grundy has Gawn covered for hitouts/game and hitouts to advantage this year. It's only marks he's winning of those 2 measures but Gawn has 10-11% more ToG% which helps with his raw numbers.

Plus it evened out when the umpire called play on when Maynard punched the ball away well after the Freo bloke had marked it.

maybe he can make harvey some toasties in return.

well it's not as if I dont recognise brody's contribution. He has cut his man bun, and I'm thankful of that. He is obviously trying to represent us better. He just needs to do more....and cheaper
