Rival supporters chased him out of the game, all because he dared to call out someone who abused him against Collingwood; a club that has had an appalling record with racism and the treatment of players of color. Like sheep other clubs supporters decided to join in and made all Aussie rules supporters look like a bunch of cretins.

They were booing him well before that, it amplified post that incident though.

Amplified is a bit of an understatement.

If you can't hear the commentary over the sound of an entire Perth or Melbourne crowd booing a single player each and every time he goes near the ball, there's something else going on.

I wasn’t around for Glenn James but I do remember the Goodes booing by Carlton and you seem to have a selective memory - Goodes instigated a reaction from the Carlton crowd…

Here’s what Wikipedia says about it:

I cannot see how booing someone who throws an imaginary spear at you to celebrate a goal is considered racist because of the color of their skin. The crowd would have booed any player doing that. The crowd boos opposition players all the time - multiple times in a game. To yell racism at every act dilutes the anger at actual racist acts.

Remember the incident well. It was done (spear throw) with what seemed like hatred, which is what tipped the crowd off so much I feel.

Perhaps a build up of things he had experienced along his journey.

Whilst the Wilkinson article has been shared and we are on the topic of Goodes and racism, to anyone, who still doubts whether the booing was racially motivated, have a look at the increasing level of dismissive people on social media, criticising Eddie Betts And his stance on racism.

The more Eddie speaks out against racism and takes a stance, the more threatened the Neanderthals become, the comments on the HS article after his interview on 360 were disgusting and will only get worse, the more he speaks.

David Astbury retires.

Been a solid contributor to the Tigers backline.

I expect Houli and Cotchin to follow suit within weeks.

End of an era at Tigerland

Another champion calls it a day

Been a massive week for retirement announcements. Hate Hawthorn with the power of a 1000 Suns, but you just couldn't help love watching Silk. Such a classy and skillful player.

It seems to always be you that I see something and it shits me a bit, so I'll get in front here and say that this isn't really directed at you but at the media.

'Silk' is his nickname from within the player group. I don't know Shaun, and I don't think you or the person who penned that article does, either. I've had nicknames before, and it always used to bother me a bit if someone who I didn't know called me by that nickname. Call it one of the vestiges of my shyness, but I'd have a moment's miniature readjustment; "Who is this person? Do they know me? How do they know me? How do they know me and I don't know them?"

Nicknames can sometimes be pretty personal, and some of them can be an in/out group thing. It's not for me to say if Burgoyne would like/dislike others who he doesn't know saying his nickname; I don't think this is one that is meant any way other than affectionately, and it certainly isn't one that's self imposed. But if I'm not someone who he knows, I'd feel uncomfortable calling him by his nickname. I'd call him Shaun if he introduced himself to me, Burgoyne when talking about him on here; it's a minor formality, I know, but that sort of thing's important. It preserves that distance between them and me, me and him, and to some people that's important.

It's why I'd don't approach people for autographs, and why I don't go out of my way to bother strangers. Sometimes, people want just to be left alone.

Yeah I understand your perspective, never considered that Silk nickname had negative connotations, the fact Hawthorn's social media accounts ran with it suggests to me he is fine with it.

But generally speaking, I agree with you about not approaching football players or stars out in public for autographs, unless at an official club function or family day which is okay.

But case in point, I met the legendary John Nicholls for the first time earlier this year (which feels like a lifetime ago now) for Kade Simpson's Farwell dinner at Shoppingtown hotel, and even though he was signing autographs for a time that night, I was too nervous to ask the great man for one.

Annoyingly in hindsight I had the courage to give a shoutout to Purple (Damian Barrett) who also attended, and to his credit, gave me a wave and acknowledged me.

You don't have to say it, I am bit of an eccentric lol

If it wasn't already a foregone conclusion, you'd have to think there is now zero chance of the Grand Final being played in Melbourne. And given how quickly WA, SA and QLD have been pulling the trigger to lockdown with even a tiny number of cases, the AFL must be in absolute panic stations whether it will even have a chance of being played in front of a crowd.

Listening to this hoopla about 30 seconds being missed during the Brisbane bs West Coast game, i read about what happened and now I’ve just watched it on, the first crack. Now can someone tell me, why would the clock be stopped, after a regulating forward 50 mark?

The 30 second shot clock, starts straight away, why would time off be blown at all? Seems ridiculous.

"St Kilda’s high-performance chief Matt Hornsby and assistant coaches Aaron Hamill and Adam Skrobalak will depart in the wake of the Saints’ poor 2021 campaign. Club sources said head physio Andrew Wallis was also leaving the club."

"Hornsby, who had been at the Saints for six seasons after more than a decade with Richmond, will leave as part of St Kilda’s off-field changes following a year in which Brett Ratten’s side failed to make the finals. Former captain Hamill had been on the club’s coaching staff for a decade, while Skrobalak had also been at the Saints since the early days of Alan Richardson’s tenure."

Watching captain coach Cameron & Cognilio talking about the final on Saturday with the Swans on AFL 360 is a bit awkward wonder if Cognilio be the sub again

Goodes nominated but turned it down at this time.

Likewise Garry McIntosh from Norwood was nominated but declined (hadn’t heard his story)

Been discussed ad nauseum, but really cannot blame Goodes for turning it down at this point. Hopefully one day in the future he changes his mind, his career and legacy was well worth celebrating and belongs in the Hall of Fame.

Speaking of Saints players, I am still staggered Nicky Winmar is not in the Hall of Fame, one of the greatest and magical players by foot I have ever seen.

Hearty congratulations to Debbie Lee, the first woman inducted into the Australian Rules Football Hall of Fame.

A true pioneer for the women's game and without people like her, we wouldn't have AFLW.

Well done Debbie 👍👍👍
