Harvey would be a good get as an assistant, which would also align with Lyon

Have heard other clubs have also approached Harvey
I’d a imagine a club would be watching how Collingwood are playing now and figuring out if they want some/all of that in their gameplan, because Harvey was clearly unable to influence Buckley.
Do you bring in assistants for their game plan?
I'd have thought you mainly want their ability to connect with and communicate with players.
Some IP from past experience obviously helps too.

... that's an interesting take.

So, you're saying that Clarkson got lucky in 2008, when he beat the most dominant (by win/loss %) team in the new millennium in the only game it matters? You're telling me that he then proceeded to refine his game, lose Buddy Franklin to his main rival at the time, and somehow become more threatening ahead of the ball? And you're telling me that he got lucky to get 2 different lists playing different game plans to one flag and then a hattrick 5 years later?

Yeah it's on par with people saying Lyon got lucky he inherited strong lists at the Saints and Dockers respectively.

He said SPS was frustrated with lack of opportunities in midfield. Loved the club

SPS has not been given the right advice or is simply not taking it!

SPS is not fit enough, is far too light to play midfield and does not do the gut running nor have the desperation/applying pressure/sticking tackles when the ball is not in hand.

Carlton is like u11's when every kid has a bitch about not playing their preferred position...

Yeah he made some good points but never misses the opportunity to try and sink the boots in on our prized recruits...
Many like him forget Saad was recruited and encouraged to play as the attacking, run & carry half back.

We need a defensive system or strategy to enhance/maximise his strengths whilst covering for his deficiencies.

He cannot be expected to do both the way we butcher the ball and apply very little midfield pressure.

Alright i have ventured over here to give my two cents on ross lyon. short answer proceed with caution but If I were you I wouldn't be upset if he was appointed.

pros:
- easily the most tactically astute coach i have ever seen. will win 2-3 games a year on that alone.
- his teams always apply effort
- its hilarious the long running gags he has with the media (basically he just mocks them, they happily took pot shots back).
- great at cultivating relationships with star players. they love him.
- will get the best out of a list.
- when he likes a player, he will get the best out of a player.
- when he first arrived at freo he reinvigorated many players crowley, walters even pavlich and the club.
- gave us real direction when he first arrived.

cons:
- literally doesn't care about bad players. this results in his 'non favourites' becoming a little disassociated/upset/disinvested with the club. which is silly as developing 40+ players yields a higher mathematical success than 35 players.
- he burns out the staff and assistant coaches at a club.
- he burns out the fans after a while
- vic media love him but he legit started a covert war with the WA media. this was all set up by the first press conference in WA where the first question was "do you believe you've stabbed mark harvey in the back". after a while he locked them out of the club, mocked them. turns out its advantageous to have the media on your side. because i reckon he keeps his job at freo otherwise.
- the female staffer story where he was drunk and said something about budding boobs stains his reputation. however, given that adam simpson is thought of as an angel today despite being involved in a more disturbing thing during his playing days, look up north melbourne and boris the chicken its messed up, as well as wayne carey in the media, I think carlton will be fine.
- to smart for his own good

In other words he has good traits but if kept on too long he gets into fights with admin, staff and the poorer players on the list may crack the shits which hurt your culture long term. also players get burnt out.
How is that a bad thing?

What is the point of this post?

Are you ranting? Are you putting forth something that you think is the problem? Are you complaining? Is this just opinion?

I genuinely do not understand what is your desired outcome here. Could you help me understand?

Rubbish, this is the job of the Head of Football. That is, line up better assistants, and line up the head coach to accept them.

You don't just accept what he wants - you do what is needed for the success of the football department. No matter how hard Teague pushed it otherwise, Lloyd should have brought in those assistants.
Tells me that Lloyd and Teague both have bad judgement, so both should go.

I can't say I'm thrilled with the rumour of Leppitsch as Head of Football.

The role has more responsibilities (admittedly administrative) than head coach.

There'd be hiring and firing. Ultimately in charge of fitness, training, player welfare. Staying on top of list management and salary cap, mediating between coach and recruiters, mediating between the ceo and coach, presenting to the board. And so much more.

You'd need vision, strategy, leadership, people skills, operational and administration competence.

I don't know Leppitsch from a bar of soap. He was a gun player and has some (assistant) coaching chops. I can't put my finger on it, but something just doesn't feel right with him being proposed as Footy Manager. Maybe I'm not convinced he's got the CV/skills to match the job.

And before you ask, I don't have any better suggestions. Might need to ruminate further on this one.
Exactly how i feel.

Please tell me that's a typo, as if I can learn how to yell that at a tv!

I just tried to say Strnadica out loud 3 times and the furniture in my office started levitating 😳😳

Exactly.

Have loved the way Saad busts a gut in trying to get the ball moving forward for us at times.

Trouble is we're not doing the right thing by him and getting back and covering his runs.

Then we have people who expect him to be able to play tight checking defence after he's expended so much energy trying to give us that run out of the back.

That's all system based. And the system isn't supporting his play.

Getting lucky is the wrong term, but Clarko certainly was helped with how gifted those players he had during flag years, then inconsistent results with lesser talent

The sides Lyon had, still had an abundance of talent too

My father told me this and it's stuck with me: it doesn't matter how you get em, you're not a shit bat if you can make 100 runs. Respect the achievement, if not the person.

No one should underestimate the achievements of a coach, nor diminish the talent of players under their control

Just the same as a cricket coach would have a variation of results depending on the talent of the players
