Maybe I had higher expectations for Dow aha 👉👈🥺

SPS has played a handful of high possession games in the midfield (none within the last 2 seasons). So we know he is capable.
I'd put Fisher in that category too. Along with Dow, shows some spectacular passages of play but then goes quiet.

Surely we could try and trade smart...
Use any combination of our 2022 First or Fisher or SPS to make a deal for Cerra...

Then we could try and pry out a Bailey Smith, Josh Dunkley type or other star mid with pick 6...

If this draft is rated by the list team and the Dow rumours of (he may want to go?) are true we
could trade for one of Richmond's 1st round picks, they have 2...
Yeah there's about zero chance of most of that

I think Saad has been good for us. It's the way we play that has blunted him in a lot of games.
Saad no doubt has changed the way he has gone about it since the media has highlighted some of the poorer defensive efforts.

I think he has been let down by a lack of system & coverage most of the times which has made him look worse defensively and quelled his natural attacking flair.

Improve the system, have rules around coverage for him, teach better positioning at D50 stoppages and encourage his strengths and we will have the damaging player we were hoping for.

There is nothing spectacular about Fisher.
SPS deserved a game in the middle last night.

I was chastised by a moderator for my comments at the start of the season about Saad being a more effective recruit than Williams.
Happy to be right.

I think poorly developed gets used too much. It a cop out for a top draft pick that might not be up to it. This happens all through the league. Why do some rookie players turn out great, when they have been through the system?
Yep, it gets ridiculous; it's never the other way around when players picked in the rookie draft turn out great. "He wasn't very talented, it was just great development." - I'd like to see that taken seriously.

Exactly. Why can Geelong develop rookies/later picks but consistently have their most highly rated draft picks and most talented young players fail?
I don’t think we are any good at developing players but I also think we naturally overrate every kid who walks through the doors so end up disappointed a lot.

Which of our rookie players have turned out great since 2015?

Can you remember last trade period? The Dogs demanded two first rounders for Dunkley and didn’t budge, told him to suck it up and it appears he is happy

I think you’re really overeating the value of pick 6, thinking it could get us a player like Smith or Dunkley and really overating Dow,if you think he would get us a pick anywhere in the 1st round.

I really hope it’s development, because if it’s not, then we have a lot of players, playing below expectations.

Regardless of the head coaching call, a huge 2022 looms for Dow, O’Brien, SPS, Fisher & Setterfield. None have ever nailed a full time role. All have been in-out either due to form or injury.

I would say not one of them has shown they can play a full 4 quarter game if AFL footy and be in the best 3-4 on the ground.

Our next midfield coach will be a critical appointment as these players really will decide if our list goes one way or the other.
