What's the connection?

We need to address our lack of KPD depth. With Jones injured and an interrupted pre season, might be worth bringing him in to help.

Cerra will no doubt cost our first pick. If that's the case, I reckon we won't be trading our future first. So how do we bring in a high quality KPD? Other option is to take a gamble on Talia.

Surely there is a huge difference between Hodge and Pendlebury though. From memory Hodge was not offered a contract at Hawthorn. Hence he signed with Brisbane. From what I understand Pendlebury has been offered a year at Collingwood. Why would any club offer him two years at his age. He is a club legend and 300 gamer. Not sure why he would go elsewhere when he has an offer from his club.

So there’s a process and there are back channels. In terms of process there’s informing key people, informing those at the club and then members (and wider AFL media/ fans etc).

Then shortlisting and interviewing for a number of positions.

As far as back channels go there are conflicting ‘reports’, it’s a 50 50 split as to whether Clarkson has indicated to anyone that he’s keen to join Carlton. Clearly, Lyon has indicated that for all to see.

So it could well be that AlphaBlue is correct: and no doubt Electric Blue is correct too.

He wants to coach outside of Collingwood.

Get McGovern back there and do a Liam...his brother one of the best in the business can mentor him.

I'm correct and so is my wife.

But what does that have to do with his playing career next year?

Offer him a deal to play for a year and come on board as an assistant. If it is Clarkson who coaches us, that's got to be quite tempting for any aspiring coach.

Mate he will have clubs queueing up for him to coach when he finishes playing. Not sure he needs to load that into a playing gig next year.

We are having a fresh clean out, and may not have any spots in a year. He would play under Clarko next year and learn from that, then he would come into the box and learn from him after that. He doesn't have to do both at the same time. Of course Clarko will bring in his own assistants, but if Pendles wanted to learn, and Clarko gave him a call .....

Personally, I'd be happy with him retiring and coming to us as an assistant right away. It's just if he wants to go on for a year, we'd have to improvise.

While I understand that point of view there are just to many variables.

Does he want to leave Melbourne? Is he willing to accept a deal to play and then coach for a team like GC that are a basket case currently on and off the field. When you also factor in the aspect he may get to do an apprenticeship under a Clarko or Lyon with the Clarko the massive incentive here IF we land him.

We'd be in a good spot to take him in the psd. Not sure the clubs below us would be too keen on him.

He’s the sort Geelong have been going for, they don’t worry about age, and they always have 300 future 3rd picks, and they hand them out like bus tickets.
