Not an enforcer as such but Gavin Brown was as hard as a cats head

The toughest of the tough was Rowdy. He didn't chuck punches but his body absorbed so much as he endlessly pursued the ball or the man. Noone was too big or too strong for Rowdy not to beat. Some wag sitting next to me at Viccy Park one day said "Oh that's not fair odds for Brown....there's only three of them"...Rowdy won the contest (as usual).
Also loved the way Ted Whitten applauded Rowdy's games in the big V. Whitten didn't ever overstate a player's capabilities but he was in awe of Gavin Brown's courage and intensity for battle.

He was indeed "as hard as a cats head!"

Have we all bypassed BT? He could blow up massively.

One who should have been an enforcer was big Wezza Fellowes. Won a BnF but had 0 mongrel in him.

Sir Scott Burns was certainly an amazingly tough and under rated player. Playing in the same team as Buckley and Brown during his career you can see why he gets over looked. I rate him in their league in his own way. Loved watching him play.

Boxers who smile and shake their heads when punched signal to the world they have been hurt. Boss's over the top reaction meant it shook him up.

Voss was as tough as teak.

That whole Brisbane team was.

They all speak glowingly of Burns, because he was one of the few who matched their hardness.

I remember the BS that flowed from the lions after they flogged us in 2003. Soft, jumping at shadows. They mocked us. Yet our "weak cowards" beat the team some call the GOAT only 2 weeks earlier as well as beating them in the home and away clash the year before. We also went incredibly close to beating this team of iron men in the 2002 GF in conditions made for tough guys to thrive in.
We were a team of battlers yet almost pulled off the upset of the century. I'm not sure if that reflects badly on the super team but it takes a little gloss off their so called champion side's reputation as the best and toughest unit to win a flag.

Darren Milane by a long long way. Remember seeing an interview from a bunch of hard nuts saying that there was only one player they would look around for “just in case”

And a top bloke as well!
When Worsfold was at his nasty best, Pants fixed him :)

He wasn’t an enforcer but the Macedonian Marvel was tough as rusty nails. The tagging and punishment he copped from opposition was immense. He stood up despite being belted from pillar to post by taggers every week. Also played through a lot of injuries. Have it on good authority that he was playing the Bombers at Windy Hill with broken ribs. Rumour has it Sheedy knew of the injury and had a picture of Daics in the change room with the injured part of his ribs circled. The Bombers players were told to whack it with every chance they could.

Millane was a player that genuinely scared his opponents
Always love the commentary from Cometti in R1 1990 when we played WCE and there was that brawl near the boundary (after Francis kicked Rance), 'Millane wants someone but doesn't know who' :)

Lol@ enforcers in today's game. There are still some courageous players....but enforcers died out long ago.
Closest thing today would be Toby Greene.

I think Millane is more hype than reality. I don't ever recall him doing anything remotely thuggish or threatening on the field of play. He was courageous and hard at it and a bit of a lad off the ground but I cannot remember even one incident which would qualify him for a mention in the enforcers list at Collingwood. He was actually a very fair player who focused on the pill. He had one collision with a Carlton player Deruey(?) I think out at Waverley which led to a report. Maybe I've missed a few incidents.

Oh no he enforced. Watch 28.10. Many of these.

I remember Shane Morwood not taking a backward step when Kickett was throwing a few at him. Tough buggers back then

Jeez that’s great footage, 1.08 in.

Morwood in complete control and Kickett knew it, refusing to throw anything more than a couple of jumper punches as Morph didn’t even bother to put his hands up. But then Pants came in and Kickett dropped all pretences of trying to show he was holding his own.
