Sorry Golf trip since Thursday, missed a couple of pages, no I was always only filling in for a year, kids starting to hit their teenage years and living in Ky so travel is a killer. Linc is in the same boat and one of those Coaches that not only does the job for nothing, but also pays the club plenty (Major sponsor), I received a couple of grand overall, in dribs and drabs throughout the season, no figure was ever talked about.

In saying all of that, if you’re doing the job properly and don’t have any affiliation with the club you’re coaching, anything less than $15,000 just wouldn’t cut it in my opinion. Huge commitment and the hours build up on you.
Would be a good gig for a couple of the young fellas that have been there for a fair while.

With Trent freer mick coad jayden hexter nathan turner kal sanders matt curtis brodie sanders all heading out to murchison how do they fit all these players with the points system and what would they be worth each player?
If a player returns from the GV and have only played reserves they are 2 points. But if they had senior appearances the year prior they are classed as 4 points.

Good question maybe Grass Kat can fill us in

It’s a bit of a squeeze, but with such a loyal group through our sustained build we have a fair base of 1 pointers.

These players have established connections with the club, with a few dads playing in the green and gold previously, another building a house in the area, or having other family connections.

No we don’t.

A little context around the MOU conversation. To have ‘home grown’ players, kids must have played 40 games in your junior team (anything from Under 17s and below).

As the KDL are Under 18s, they even technically don’t count.

So when the points system came in KDL clubs nominated the junior clubs where their players came from, failing that we wouldn’t have any one pointers at all, unless a player had never played anywhere else before.

Deducation for years of service still count .
So the point regarding not playing elsewhere can and would be be overridden / alleviated by the fact they have deductions for years of service .
In my view the wording of the document should relate to games played before the player turned 18 regardless of the competition being u15’s , u 16’s , u17’s , u18’s ot u19’s.
The way it has played out it has given a significant advantage to those closer to the major towns where there is an increased amount of junior teams and therefore players aligned to those clubs .

MTFNC don’t have an MOU with Mooroopna, however we were able to land the Mooroopna players discussed above. Other clubs in the KD that do have an MOU with Mooroopna were trying to get the same players but were not able to land them, so in this case the MOU was of no advantage with to those clubs who have it.
Critics will straight away say that it comes down to $$. I believe that majority of the time it comes down to connection, playing with a friend or family member at the club, knowing the coach or recruiter, work connections etc and of course opportunity for success!!

Sounding pretty confident there fella. Chips were in on this years side as well pretty early to end up being the 5th ranked side.

Shepp east pay role must be large this year with the recruits they’ve got.

Would of been 25/30k under the cap in recent years. Without knowing the exact B&F results I would expect 3 of the top 6 were playing for free.

Lost fichera and Lloyds so that frees up plenty of cash in the budget.

I would suggest points has absolutely no impact on a individual players decision on where they will or won’t play .
The onus falls solely on the coach each week when they go to pick the side .
Another layer which I suggest has does nothing to encourage people to take up coaching .

Lol when I re read that sentence, I can see what you mean. Interpret it how you will… My point was more around what gets players to clubs in general and not specifically talking murch. Any club will have a better chance at securing players if those players think they are a chance of some success. It’s not always about $. You as a senior coach would know that! Are your latest Mooroopna recruits signed up for cash or the chance of success? They will be another example of the MOU or point system not being an advantage for some clubs. Your recruits could be 1 pointers for tally and or undera (undera is aligned with Mooroopna) but instead they are travelling down to avenel.

We know how hard it is to win one, as I’m sure you do, not having got one at avenel since the 90’s?

What do you think of the Shepp news Kdl team of the year in today’s rag
Not too bad Swoop. As always with those they go off times in best, goals kicked and league votes. Aydin gave me a call yesterday for input. All I said was not sure how many times Barnes had a direct opponent to be named CHB 😂 would have had Nolan there and Barnes HB.

Yeh fair call I certainly would have had Jammo in the starting 18 and would have Maynard in as well is chewy a little stiff ultra

Yep I agree there. I did mention Maynard but as he was completely snubbed by the umpires they went with those that polled well. Our b&f on November 20, he is a big chance to take that out. Chewy only played 5 games all up.

I know Rushy didn't win many games, and that undoubtedly plays on the minds of the selectors, but on baller Kieran Malone was in the best, 1st or 2nd, in nearly every game he played. And he should comfortably win the B+F. Surely could have landed a spot on the bench
