It pains me to write this but I think it's all over for him.

I cannot believe some of the moves out there tonight.

Johns in the backline

Third quarter? Team was all over the shop and then they killed us. Why so many changes? Where's our game plan?

It's obvious we lack run so why do we play with 3 ruckman + Mal, Fletch, Lucas, Johns, Hird, Watson. Team balance is completely stuffed.

I've backed the old boy for a long time but he's become disinterested, passive and does not seem to inspire the team anymore.

Is he responsible for all the moves?
Johns to the backline did seem a bit strange, considering Lucas was the only target looking like doing something up forward. Perhaps thats why they moved him. He didn't look like getting the ball in the forward line in the first half.
Stayed home and watched the game on tele. Sheeds address at 3 quarter time was good I thought. Passed on some good points to the boys, which almost got us back in the game.
Seriously, is someone gonna post about Sheeds everytime we lose. He will be there until the end of the year. Let him bow out with grace. I get a bit emotional as he feels like a family member.

I liked how he opened up the forward line just for Lucus, ive been wanting for that to happen for a while, but it'd work better if it was both Lucas and Lloyd in the forward line.

While i concede we kicked poorly, are you actually saying that's why we lost Longy?

Well im dam sure that 9.2 or 8.3 would have looked much better than 2.9 ;)

I see some interesting discussion coming up ant, as imo, that had very little to do with why we lost.

Of course we MAY have played differently had we kicked straighter

Is that a serious question swervin?? If you kick the ball through the middle of the two big sticks more than between the big and the little one, it certainly helps to achieve a win.

Yes that is a serious question.

While Your above statement is correct.

Attacking the football and putting your body on the line when it is required also goes a long way to acheiving a win

I thought our pressure was pretty good. Harris and Swallow just went that little bit harder. But overall, I think we had more than enough scoring shots to win the game, we just didn't capitalise.

We also took players on when we shouldve dished out the quick disposal and kicked backwards when we shouldve taken them on. When the opponent shuts down our space, out goes the football brain also.

We lost becasue of the piss poor effort in the third quarter when we stopped running and went back to the stupid chip around game but the kicking in the first quarter contributed to the loss. That and the fact that McPhee seems to have truned into a sooky lala after being craved up by Buddy last week.:thumbsd:

We had more of the footy, we tackled better, we used the footy better.

Their foot skills were horrible, I've never seen a team kick in so bad.

We got beaten around the stoppages, but our pressure on the ball carrier was very good.

We could have killed the game by half time.

I thought our matchups at the start of the quarter were fantastic, I thought we exposed Glenn Archer very well.

There were a couple of things I would have done differently and I do think Sheeds had ordinary games in the last two weeks, but the players lost it tonight, not Sheeds.

Surely this could have gone in the previous sack Sheedy thread ;)

Could have but I wanted to keep it along the lines of my "Bye Bye Dyson" thread.

Hopefully I want have to do another "Bye Bye" thread as I don't have that many more in the gun..... well there is Bolton but we already know the deal there.

I would wait till round 16 and Essendon have played every team once before analising Sheedy's performance. But he must be starting to feel some pressure. You guys had such a good start to the year and it has gone a little off course the last 3 weeks.

Good to see some of the youngsters you are blooding though. Davey looks like a star.:thumbsu:

Well there will more than likely be a few more coming up :D

Crap.

We were all over the shop in the third quarter. No one knew where to go and run. It was chaos. Too many positional changes in modern footy will kill your flow and game plan.

They were 80's tactics and do not work anymore!

I never come away from a game and think "gee, what a great coaching performance, it really gave us a boost tonight".

Instead, I shake my head at what I see as Essendon's blender-style of coaching.

That is where players get rotated through every position on the ground to give them breadth of experience or something. I think I heard what it was called tonight - "Total Football". We aren't Brazilian - we are like a bunch triers without any polish.

Bad coaching just compounds things - Johns to defense, Pev spending too much time in defensive 50 rather than being nailed in the midfield, Laycock to full forward (a waste of time).....

Yep, mediocre coaching...

And last year everyone wanted him sacked because we didn't make enough changes.

We stopped running, we stopped moving the footy and Welsh went down.

We had to make changes.

We realistically made two changes, Cole went forward to play Welsh's role and Johns went back.

Ryder went forward so he could rotate through the ruck.

The Roos also made a host of changes, Brown went back, Grant went deeper forward, Campbell went to Stanton for a while.

We should have kicked the first goal of the third quarter.

Thanks for the reply Longy, and while iu agree with the above imo that is not where we lost it.

We are soft.
When there is a time in the game where you have to go, with the exception of the peverill, types, we don't go.

This gives the other team confidence that they have beaten us mentally and physically, and we have lost the game from there.

As i said in a previous post, i have noticed this in previous weeks, but was hoping it wasn't true, sadly it is.

It's the exact reason why carlton and collingwood beat us
