considering the sombre atmosphere over the forum since friday thought id make a thread to celebrate and discuss the recognition 3 of our players received by being nominated for the all australian squad

  • Hugh McCluggage (3X Squad, 0X Team)
  • Lachie Neale (3X Squad, 2X Team)
  • Charlie Cameron (1X Squad 1X Team)

Do you think anyone else from brisbane was stiff to miss out? Will all of our representatives be selected for the team?

personally i will find it rather funny if clug makes the team on the wing in his first season playing predominantly inside

Full All Australian Squad

Clug definitely deserving of making the cut, though I reckon he'll get overlooked. Cameron I don't think will make it, but Neale should be in there. Congrats to all three though.
Like to see Starc, Kiddy, Bailey and Rayner there next year.

I can't quantify who Starc should have beaten into it, but I feel he was stiff to lose out.

anyway, big Congrats to those three. really solid year

starce doesnt play a role that tends to garner all australian attention. backline usually go with 2-3 key position defenders then they fill the other slots with rebounding and intercept types.

personally id have starcevich's year ahead of weitering and kelly at least in terms of relative performance within their roles. can probably make an argument for a few more.

Neale locked in. Charlie was probably just about in till people saw what Pickett did on Friday and might take some gloss off Charlie being thought of as the best small forward going around. Clug I don't think has much hope.

Hugh's efficiency to get another AA squad nomination is amazing but once again has not quite been able to elevate into superstar status, from elite status. Nothing wrong with that either.

Lachie will be a lock, Charlie will likely miss out.

dlanod who's photo did they put up when they called out Connor Rozee's name, because it was a player in Giant's singlet.

Port gets a token selection. Not as bad as Butters who shouldn’t have been in the squad

Kornes gets to say that Walsh and Rozee have the same number of AAs now. Lucky for him the selection panel decided rozee was worthy, wonder if there was a strong advocate for him in the room!

Farce that Charlie Cameron didn't get selected. 47 goals, the most tackles inside 50 of any player and over 3 a game + elite for marks inside 50.

You could delist every AFL player in the competition and put them in a megadraft.

If Jack Macrae went in the top 80 I’d be stunned, let alone the top 22.

And I wouldn’t trade one McCluggage for 2 Connor Rozees.

Rozzee over McLuggage is so stiff. Who’s saying okay McLuggage has put together 4 seasons of elite footy and Rozzee put together - 15 games this year? Just doesn’t make sense

SMH in no world did Rozee outperform Hugh.

no idea what metric they looked at that made stengle more worthy of the team than cameron considering cameron has him covered in basically everything that matters this year

You're forgetting the most important metric, Team: Geelong.

Jokes aside, Charlie's quiet-ish end to the season didn't help his cause whereas Stengle got to beat up on some easier teams.

Yeah I'm annoyed about Charlie missing. It was close, but Charlie had the edge statistically. You could see it coming for Stengle though, the redemption story, playing for the most 'AA worthy' team in history and then Charlie having a quiet finish to the season.

The worst decision though was not selecting Sicily. That is just mind boggling. There is no doubt in my mind he is the best defender in the competition by some margin.

Maynard is certainly an AA favourite son, very good footballer but I don't think he is 4x All Australian by the age of 25 good, that is all time great potential building.
