How is this giving away future picks for a short term obsession?

If all goes to plan we draft an 18 year old. Bring in TWO 20 year olds and a 24 year old.

And we can’t give up the F1 !

We just finished two games on top and won the flag FFS

Certain AFl rule provisions could allow the Cats to use a future first-round selection to make a play for Collingwood's Ollie Henry if their traded-in pick No.25 from Brisbane isn't accepted.

My only concern is how do we get Jhye Clark?
If we do really want him you'd think we do have a plan and won't just leave it to chance that he slides to #8 (which is unlikely).

If we haven't somehow got a deal to get #5 off GC instead of #7 (which will end up #8) I'm not sure what the plan is.

As per usual... Time will tell.

Thre might be something else happening with that GC deal that we don't know yet.

Pick 7 is not to get specifically Clark, it’s to get the seventh best player. For all we know we may not even rate Clark in the top 7. The obsession for the fact he’s a falcon is mind blowing.

Personally I’d rather mckenzie, Phillipou or even wardlaw/sheezel if they slipped than Clark

I hate it when Geelong becomes desperate and gives away future picks for a short term obsession. We've already given away next year's second and 4th round picks, now we're trying to give away next year's 1st round pick. We swapped No.38, 48 and 55, as well as future second - and fourth-round selections, to Brisbane in exchange for the sole pick No.25. Now considering giving 25 and next year's first round (18 at worst) for Ollie Henry. What a joke. Basically blowing an entire year of draft picks for a player who will be a top up player and may or may not ever get a game. Why have we become so desperate. Ollie Henry is nice to have if you can get him cheaply. otherwise forget about it.
I used to have these views on short-term thinking but now I accept I know Jack, and have total faith club

It gets down to what we have traded out from next year. Just what does next years draft look like atm?
Next years draft stands at a 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick. If we manage to trade that 1st away as well which is considered a possibility, we will have a solitary 3rd round pick in next year's draft.

Theres a rule that you cant trade future 1st and future 2nd at the same time (unless you have another future 1/2 somehow). But teams (Probably us and port for JFH) are asking the AFL for permission to trade both

Geez calm down - let’s see how we end up. We may not know all of what is coming back in over trades for Esava etc. You cannot be serious at the moment - they will know how the Bowes deal swings, etc and it will be fine. Predicting the club will stuff this up Royally in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary is just not really rational…………

They traded the future second to Brisbane in its picks-swap deal. GCS wanted that pick in the Bowes deal, so there must be more wheeling and dealing ahead. Maybe a future second round for Sav to get to Port then give that to GCS for Bowes.

Many Pies supporters want us to give up pick 7 for Henry and pick 16. Not going to happen. They are so delusional.

If that's the case we'll get permission as well... If we bring in pick 7 AND 2 20 year old kids they'll let it fly cos contrary to some beliefs we aren't selling our future

Just to say that again. as it stands .... IN P25 and Bruhn. OUT EVERYTHING.
Everything = Pick 18, Pick 38 and a Future 2nd (32-36ish).

Pick 48, Pick 55, Pick 74 and a Future 4th were never getting used.

Pick 18, Pick 38 and Pick 32-36 for Bruhn and Pick 25. No net loss, no net gain as it stands.

If we get Bowes, Pick 7 and Henry for 25 and a Future 1st (as that's all we have left) then the net gain/loss is:

Pick 18, Future 1st (Pick 14-18), Pick 25, Pick 38, Future 2nd (Pick 32-36),

for

Pick 7, Bruhn (former Pick 12), Henry (former Pick 17) and Bowes (former Pick 10). No matter what happens from here, we come out massively on top.

Maybe clearing out our picks next year will be for our benefit. Makes any RFA pushes more likely to accept compo than match and make us trade, :eyes:
Nexts years round 2 will be like 40 again after bids etc, take it easy it’s not that big of a deal. On player traded would get us back in the 2nd round. And we will again have a whole new set of future picks to play with.
