Sounds like after the month they’ll see where they are at. Could be much longer.

Some intital media reports after Walsh went in for surgery was he could potentially miss the first half of the season (if not more)

But recent reports about his rehabilitation/recovery from his surgery is very encouraging

So what's the verdict on Gov? I'm assuming restricted pre season but will be available Round 1?

Let's keep in mind the HS probably pushes out contract figures with all incentives and apperances made, i.e. theoretical max, and then rounds up.

As much as we might not consider injury risk as well as other clubs in terms of getting matches played, there's no doubt contract structures would reflect their injury history prior to joining the club, and they would earn substantially less compared to the average if they're not playing at AFL level.

Ok, as long as we also keep in mind they're in the mix as two of the highest paid players at the club...

Philp is done, cannot possibly survive the list cull end of this year.

I think this could be the case.

Disappointing. I liked what I saw from him early.

I would agree, sadly. Has missed too much crucial development time now in the key formative years.
Very sad for him.

If he only misses the first month, 4 weeks of the season, that is a massive win and credit to our medical and strength and conditioning staff, despite what some of the doomsayers and negative Nellie's on this board say.

Says a fair bit about how low our standards are as a club that a player who was a late withdrawal after experiencing back soreness in August 'only' missing 8 months is now considered a 'massive win and credit to our medical and strength and conditioning staff'.

Think this has already been covered

Surgery is always the last resort, a decision which is solely the responsibility of a physician

100%.

They took the ultra conservative road - and rightly so for a 21 yo star.

That didn't work clearly, so then surgery was undertaken....

Bugger, I was hoping we could complete the Golden Double with Sam winning a back to back Brownlow for the club, to go with the Harry/Charlie Coleman first Leg. It seems very unlikely with him missing the first month.

Judd won a brownlow after missing 3 weeks iirc. Hasn't someone since then won missing 3, or maybe even 4?

Still unlikely, nonetheless.
