Interesting plenty on the match day thread bagging Ed Curnow. Went onto prestia in the last - Prestia touched the ball once.

Sure he's not the greatest, but gee he's got heart.
I thought Ed curnow was pretty good. He isn’t going to have 25-30 anymore . But what he does in his new role is add years of experience and structure. And he never fumbles is always clean with the ball. I thought Voss putting him in the middle for the last 5-6 minutes was great

All he needed was the boundary line. Not to pin point a pass for a guy outnumbered 3 to 1 while running full tilt
He hit a bloke on his knees in between three defensive players after running flat out for 100+ metres with heat on his tail, not a bad kick in the heat of the game!
Not his fault one iota.

I think I'll be saying this a lot, but I think we'll beat any team so long as we get close to breaking even in the inside 50s. We were -21 tonight and got a draw (and should have won).

We need to find a way to lock it in when we go forward, and find a way to get it out when we have it down back. Fix that, we win plenty.

So who took the mark and fires a quick handball to LOB in the end? I'd blame him more than LOB. Should have hold onto the ball to kill time a bit.

We have no right to be upset about getting a draw. We stole a draw.
Is it our intention to bomb the ball into F50 every single time? We have no ability to pass or hit up a target. It’s absolutely nuts!
Pretty sure that is the game plan, yep. Plays to the strength of McKay and Curnow, and the smalls are largely just there to add a bit of charm.

This season will be frustrating because of the weight of expectations but to be fatalistic about the side overall is bullshit.
Weird season... feel second half of 22 is more realistic of where we’re at. First half was emotion of new coach, system and admin. With our injuries and reliance on 3-4 to make magic happen every week we’re potentially in for a tough season.

Probably could have 25+ if he was played on ball all game. Not that I’d want that, we have better players there (Cripps, Walsh, Hewett, Kennedy, Cerra)

Motlop - and I agree! Lateral or defensive ball movement could’ve won it for us.

The fans voting suggests it's a commonly held view that Saad and McGovern were not good.

9 interceptions to match all his fumbles, turnovers and dropped marks.

Saad did some magnificent covering runs and saved a number of goals but overall they kind of get forgotten in the haze of the nuclear melt down that was the rest of his game.

Haven't seen him that bad before (excepting the Crows game).

Gov - also had some good moments but jeez that was again a poor performance.

Hopefully better for the run.

Look, glass half full...

Saad's hearing has improved in the off season as he could hear footsteps from miles away.

Martin didn't pull a calf. Likely due to no kicks, but still.

Owies was definitely out there for a period of time.

Fisher didn't get carried away with his great first quarter by not touching it again.

Jack went at 100%...with his 4 touches.

Yep was sitting on the opposite half back flank behind him. The moment got to him and he ran too far. McKay was out by 30m either if he kicked it 1-2 bounces sooner. Grimes was out of position. Him running too far allowed Grimes to drop back in to the hole. Again, even if he doesn’t hit McKay on the tit, the ball could’ve been dribbled through for a point or a stoppage as a boundary throw in. He cooked it.
So kick an 80 metre low dry pass to a leading forward from deep wing ya reckon?😂😂😂😂😂😆😆😆🥱

Coach. Sign. Shut it down.

LOB: Lololololol let's go for a huge run and turnover.
He had Rioli right on him and I don't think we had anyone other than McKay ahead of the ball.

Disagree with anyone saying that LOB did the wrong thing there. He receives a handball from Motlop on the half-back flank. Rioli is quickly on his tail, so he doesn't have time to stop and look for a short sideways or backwards target. There's no one immediately up the ground for him to kick to. His only choice is to run forward.

He runs, and looks for a target. Again, He doesn't want to go corridor because that's an even greater risk of turnover, so he tries to find someone near the boundary. Sees McKay one-on-three, close to the boundary. Chances are pretty good that McKay either marks it or can knock it over the line. Kicks it perfectly, lace-out to McKay.

It's difficult to see what he could have done differently.

If he had tried anything else (kicking it backwards into the tiges' fifty, trying to find someone in corridor and turning it over), we would all be asking why on earth he hadn't run down the line and kicked to McKay to try to at least get a boundary throw in stoppage.

Lewis Young was fantastic.

We have twin towers up front. Developing a killer 1-2 down back too.

I Will absolutely take that result, especially after our hit out against the Swans which had me worried.
Could be a bit off a wake up call for the group…we’ll beat the Pussies

Instead of smashing LOB for that option, why don’t we applaud the degree of difficulty of the kick he executed? Motlop probably shouldn’t have played on and anyone who has played footy knows what it’s like when you’re running down the wing, bouncing the ball with a forward leading up to you. You look down for a second to bounce and they’ve double back on their lead, or have teleported from where you last saw them.

Not LOB’s fault, at all.
So, slow the game down and reverse through Motlop again. Not his fault but he had a chance to close it out and couldn’t. Don’t bounce and hit the target on the first lead. Games come down to moments and LOB missed his. So did Motlop. So did Acres. So did H with 2 missed goals in the first half. So did Voss by not getting Martin or Fisher more involved or off.
Moments and LOB missed his.

  • With Ross Lyon back coaching are we preparing for 2023 to be a choke and low scoring fest?
  • We should’ve lost, some lucky goals and no forward control anytime in the game. Hanson needs to get the forward line going fast.
  • McGovern, Marten underdone. Hollands wasn’t ready.
  • LOB keep running and kick long to goal... a filthy point was enough... or worst a few more seconds off the clock.
  • Martin, Riewoldt and Cotchin done, and once we get some back so is Ed.
ed is far from done. I'm feeling a shane Crawford end to his career.
