Hawks are contributing a large portion of Mitchell's salary.
Markov is on a rookie contract. T Brown was not. I think you'll find there's a very good saving there. Minimum $100k pa.

Grundy's salary issue wasn't about last year or the year prior. It was his salary moving forward. I can tell you the first couple of years of his new contract he was taking less than the $950k pa. Moving forward it is $1.1m and growing each year.

Also, Pendlebury came off a very large salary in 2021, and the club has saved significant $ on his new 2 year deal.

Not sure how much we may have pre-paid on Treloar's contribution over the 1st couple of years.

It all adds up with an increase in TPP being factored into the future.
Hawks contributing Mitch's salary only for this season.
Doubting Grundy is on more than $800k at the Demons.
Not sure what amount we contribute to his salary but I'd think $200k at most.

I don't know what the Demons are paying or what they have agreed to with Grundy.
However, I do know Grundy was on over $1m in 2023 at the Pies, growing to $1.2m. The club was focused on getting his future salary off the books which was going to be more the issue.

Another Ed master-stroke to go with the Beams, Stephenson, Treloar salaries.
IMO this led to his exit.
Ed stuck his nose everywhere at the club in the last few years.
He believed his own hype.
Control freak.

In a panic he hired Wright to fix everything.

I think at the time it was a player who was really changing the ruck role at the time. High clearance numbers. 20+ disposals a game. He could run with the ball and play a good link-up role. Coming off his second AA and Copeland. Would have taken a very brave decision to let him go; particularly when Cox was more dangerous as a forward.

But, leaders make brave calls. I just think the Pies did the usual and over paid to keep one of their own at the club. Seems like Wright isn't like that at all.

I think Adelaide at the time offered us 2 first rounders and perhaps a second as well for Grundy.
Wright would have taken that.
If only 😪

McCrae is the AFL’s Ted Lasso
watt price tully said:
(From an article in the Age last week)

".....Craig McRae talks of happiness more than football. He talks excitedly of smiles on faces more than footballs in hand. But he concludes one begets the other: happy players make better players.

He has a Ted Lasso-like unrelentingly positivity to him. At any moment you feel he could call his assistants for an urgent meeting of the Diamond Dogs. Arooo!

You can’t quite see McRae bursting into new CEO Craig Kelly’s office with freshly baked cookies, but he does have a retro tabletop arcade game machine in his own office. He embraces a Lasso-like “fun first” philosophy.

McRae’s face reddens at the mention of Ted Lasso. “My wife thinks I am [the Ted Lasso of the AFL],” he says.

Reflecting on last year’s one point preliminary final loss to Sydney - which he has not yet re-watched- and the critical moments, including the game-deciding free kick not paid against Tom Papley, he’s as philosophical as Ted.

“It was a tight game wasn’t it? I don’t really know what to say other than Jack Crisp was amazing in the last two minutes I watched. I don’t want to live in the what-ifs. I don’t do that, I haven’t sat in that space. I wish I was six foot four. I’m not, so you just move on,” he said.........."

Why Collingwood coach Craig McRae is the Ted Lasso of the AFL

If you haven’t seen Ted Lasso it’s lovely TV series on Apple TV. Simply gorgeous.

Trailer of series 1:

(Tried to copy something I put on Nicks but mucked it up a bit: need to kidnap some more 6 year olds to help me with my IT skills deficits ( they can join the other ones I’ve got under the stairs) 🤦‍♂️

So the more I see our team under Fly and how much he’s transformed the team and the Club I’ve got to say that hiring him has been one of the best decisions the board has ever made. My god the wasted Buckley years, the more I think back and the more I hear bucks talk in the Media the club atmosphere under him must have been terrible, the game plan was. The two worst games of football I’ve ever seen, the Tigers game after the Covid break which was a draw and the Port game at the G where we didn’t want to score and just kept kicking it sideways and backwards.
Fly has rejuvenated my love for the club which id list under Bucks and Eddie. The what ifs, if we had fly earlier with younger Pendles and Sidebum. Even though the saints won, wtf are they going to be like under Lyon, boring as bat shit with a game plan from 2009. They are in this position because of how he left them last time, so he created his own job.
Anyway glad we got fly and the transformation of the whole club is very encouraging.

The problem with that is, one of the things that has made Fly such a good coach is he’s had a long apprenticeship as a development and then assistant coach at multiple clubs.
And..... for the first and only time Collingwood went through a proper recruitment process to appoint the senior coach- including would you believe interviewing candidates.

Thank you Graham Wright, Paul Licuria and Luke Ball for such an outstanding appointment.

I've said this before, I'll say it again and I'll repeat it even more after McRae has won us a flag

Losing that 2018 Grand Final will be looked back upon as the biggest blessing in disguise this club has ever experienced

Hard to hear that, but I feel it will be so easy for me to say in 5 years' time :)

If we win that flag, Buckley is still coaching us while we wallow down in the bottom 4 mate. "But we won the flag in 2018, I swear he can coach"

Of course, and we see that right now with West Coast.

Could say under Bucks we never had a shot in hell in creating a system that could win multiple flags. Under McRae, well that idea is certainly more realistic.
