That's assuming you believe Buckley was the one who got us there:

End of 2011, Buckley takes over a Premiership Winning and then Grand Final losing side

2012 4th
2013 6th
2014 11th
2015 12th
2016 12th
2017 13th

End of 2017, Longmuir and Hocking arrive

2018 3rd (then Grand Final)
2019 4th (Prelim)

Longmuir leaves (I think Hocking too?)

2020 8th
2021 17th

Now, if you truly think Bucks got us to that Grand Final...great. I couldn't disagree more

This is why I will FOREVER say that losing that Grand Final was a blessing in disguise
This could be the silliest post I have ever seen. It’s actually offensive.

Watching that goal in the stands was the most sickening experience I’ve ever had at the footy. I’d have given anything to have won that game.

What a shocking post. Shameful.

Personally I was cheering my head off….

“ Yes, this is the turning point we need to land Craig McRae in four seasons time and make a prelim in his first year! “

Yeah, I’m pushing 70 now, so I’ve seen more lost grand finals than I care to count and they all still sting.
As far as 2018 goes… winning that flag (or not having it stolen by shithouse umpiring) would have sustained me as a happy supporter and member for a good 10 years. Not sure how missing out on that is a blessing in disguise for any of us.

Yeah 60 pushing 70 also and utterly sick to death of umpiring.

I've said this before, I'll say it again and I'll repeat it even more after McRae has won us a flag

Losing that 2018 Grand Final will be looked back upon as the biggest blessing in disguise this club has ever experienced
This is so symptomatic of thought processes that have been the achilles heel of Collingwood in my supporting lifetime. Counting our chickens.

Its entitled thinking. A flag or more is ours to take. 2018 would have been the 3rd great Collingwood moment of my life. It was a shocking thing to miss it. Missing it can never be a benefit.

Fly has been fantastic so far but we are still a long way from a flag so why would you thinking missing one could be a benefit when we might not get one in the next decade or more.

Its really tough to win one. The odds are against Fly ever being a premiership coach like they are for any current coach who is not yet a flag winner. Never swap one for just the chance of winning one down the track. Even if that was possible in reality.

Worried your time is running out?

I’d say the salary cap debacle was the trigger.
And unfortunately the cap contraction that came with covid was the thing that sealed our fate. We were closest to the edge when it happened.

Our real mistakes where how we mismanged the fall out for mine.

We could have managed it better but I don’t think we got rid of the wrong players.

Because I don’t think we’re far away from a flag?

Thats the point. I know your thought is hypothetical but a flag in 2018 would have been massive. Having Bucks still at the helm would have been no price to pay. I hope we are close to a flag but they are so hard to win. We could esily be 10 or 20 years from one. 2018 was a terrible loss.
